I have an academic renewal on my record, so when I apply, I can put "AR" instead of "F", plus I retook the class (macroeconomics) and got an A. My G.P.A. at time of application will be a 3.79, by Winter update, it should be a 3.84.

I am trying to get into communcations.

Communications at UCLA is one of the most selective majors on that campus. That said, good luck.

I had AR on my application and it worked out fine. I got into Cal but no UCLA. Goodluck to ya!

-Edit
I had 2 AR's actually.

I had AR and got into both.

I got an F in English one semester, retook it the next semester for an A, and I got into UCLA. My major isn't impacted like yours, though . . . The admissions counselor told me they just cross out all Fs and Ws on the transcript.

Comm studies is the most competitive major @ UCLA with a meager 15% acceptance rate. The communication department reviews transfer applicants themselves. They're extremely picky, so academic renewal could possibly affect your chances of admission. The competitiveness of the program cannot be stressed enough. It didn't strike me until I got rejected. But the best of luck to you!
