I am assuming that all those that get in with lower than the average SAT scores posted on College Board and the UNC website are all in-state and probably athletes, right?

Does anyone personally know of students with less than average SAT scores (less than 1900) that were not athletes get in?

Yeah, I got in with a 1770 I believe. Writing killed my score with a 470. Although, I did mention that I was a mentalist in nearly 2 of my essays, so that might’ve helped out in setting me apart from the rest.

i know of a couple of out of state kids with less than 1900 on the SAT. they were backed up with good grades and ec’s however and probably great essays/ great rec letters

Yeah, my roommate last year(in-state) got a 1550 and wasn’t an athlete. Not sure how he got in with a score like that, but he’s doing much better than people who scored 400-500 points above him. Don’t worry about SAT Scores.

My friend is a rising junior who got in with a score in the 1400s. He is an ROTC cadet and had tons of leadership in and out of the program in high school, so that helped. Yeah, don’t stress TOO much on scores… just do your best!

My SAT score wasn’t as great as my ACT score which was a 29. But even that isn’t phenomenal. My SAT score was 1800. However I am transfer student so I think it may have been easier.

I am not an athlete and I got in with a 1790 (in state). However I had a 4.4 and lots of ECs with leadership and continual employment throughout h/s.

For transfer, you can definitely get in with a less than stellar SAT. I got in with a very poor SAT score, because UNC uses an holistic approach in which they look at you from a 360 degree perspective. If you have one flaw but the rest is spotless, there’s a high chance.

I mean I don’t think you can have a LOW sat and be in the top 10% for out of state. Things need to weigh out, like LOW SAT/ top 5%-7%/ leadership/ etc.

A friend of mine who scored in the 1700s range got in Out of State. But like what most are already stating she was ranked in top 5%, great ECs and probably great recs/essays.
