^ Haha. Yeah I'll have to go shopping for some things before I head up there lol. My parents grew up around Sioux Falls and almost all or my relatives still ve in South-Eastern South Dakota, so I know how cold it can get. But still, it will take some getting used to.

Yes, definately do not underestimate the temperatures, its not just the cold but the wind makes it bad-always look at the wind chill not the temp when you are here

Oh gosh, I wish I was in Florida this year. But of course there's the Gopher Way tunnels at the U of MN (although don't be tricked when they tell you that they go everywhere, they don't, and they take much more time than a normal walk).

P.S.-Bring a scarf, it's like the newest "it" item on campus

^ A scarf??? I'm pretty sure that they don't sell those in Florida lol. I might be lucky to get a hoodie.

Yeah the wind is always what gets you. I remember being in S. Dakota last winter for Christmas break, and it was -15 and windy (I don't know what the wind-temp was) the day we left.... for a Floridian, it was downright painful.

w00t I got in today!

Would it say online if you've been accepted or not? Or they'd send it by mail?

I got my official letter a week or two ago for Carlson.

Unweighted GPA: 3.9
ACT: 29
Lots of EC's
Rank: Top 5%

Anybody know if I have a chance at a decent scholarship?

U of M is tied for first choice with UW-Madison, but I got into both therefore making it pretty hard to decide.

glitchy, you'll be able to tell online on your status check if you got in or not. That's where I saw it first... and then I got the official notification by mail about five days or so later.

AT9 if u dont mind me askin, what was your major? It seems to differ from major to major! For example, jotajota218 (right above) seem to have only got it by mail. I'm a transfer student, not sure if that would differ.

Oh sorry glitchy, I also saw that I got in online under the status check roughly a week before my letter.

glitchy, I'm pretty sure you'll get notification both online and by mail.... regardless of your transfer status or major. My major is political science, by the way. Good luck!

You can check online, but you also get a letter.

I got into IT. It took a month and a half for my SAT scores to get there. So maybe they're waiting on some of your scores?

At first I was thinking that not the brightest students went to U of Minn but it is still a decent school. Now after reading some posts in this part of CC I'm glad to see that there is really some bright students going there. This really helps change my perspective a bit on the U compared to UW-Madison.

You are probably right when you said not the brightest kids go to the u of mn. But they are overwhelmed by very intelligent kids. The CSOM CBS and IT are very difficult to get in and have some of the brightest kids going there, especially the chem engineering program-the kids go to the U instead of MIT and Stanford

So do you think my being accepted into CSOM will make my experience at the U better, if i was worried about dealing with less intellectual kid as opposed to going to Madison?

if you want to do business, go to Minnesota. Carlson gets extremely good job placements with all the fortune 500 companies here. If you plan on going to medical school, I would go to Madison. If you plan on going to dental school, I would go to Minnesota. If you want to do engineering, both are very good. It really depends what you want to do.

Overall, I think people at the UofM are nicer. There's a vibe that Madison's campus gives off that I just don't like.

My son was accepted in the IT dept for engineering. We visited the campus last fall. Overall, we were impressed with our visit. He was accepted at UW-Madison as well as a couple other great schools too. I hate to say it, but merit will be a big part of our decision.

Hey everyone... I just submitted my application last week, and today I got the e-mail stating that they'd received it and that I should check the status online. I tried to make my account but it says that my information is incorrect. Has this happened to anyone else, or is it just me?
