i would not go as far as to say cuny is like csu's even. ..i mean i see your comparision point and all, but i think SDSU is still better than any cuny.

SDSU is Harvard compared to Baruch. I live in Baruch's neighborhood and the school is the pits, its run like a corporation and its reputation is slightly above that of a community college,

I wouldn't go so far to say that. SDSU is ranked by U.S.News as "fourth tier" where Baruch shows "UniversitiesMaster's (North), 50." I don't know which one is better for those overall rankings (my guess would be baruch), but for business:

Baruch: 47
SDSU: 77

That, coupled with Baruch's location in middle of NYC - it makes it the better choice for business (IMO).

I go to school in NYC, so I'd like to give my opinion. I think it would be absurd to trail across the country to go to Baruch. Baruch has absolutely no campus life -- I've visited, I know. The students go to school and then home. Yes, CUNY is affordable, but it really is NOT worth it. I go to an average NYC public high school (SAT average: 1450/2400, 970/1600), and a good number of the students at my school choose Baruch, because they're afraid to go away from home or try new things. Go to UCSD -- you'll feel like you're among your peers, as opposed to feeling like you're among your inferiors. It's a great school if you plan on eventually transferring out, but definitely not the place to go for four years. :)

To the person who asked if SUNY was better than CUNY, the answer is "maybe". I cannot compare both, but I can tell you that the BEST SUNYs (Geneseo, Binghamton) are * a lot better* than the BEST CUNYs (Baruch, Queens, Hunter). It's in a pretty nice part of NYC, but it's (the education) really not worth the plane ticket.

Geneseo's average SAT/ACT scores: 1287/26
Binghamton's average SAT/ACT scores: 1265/25
Baruch's average SAT/ACT scores: 1114 / -
Queens' average SAT/ACT scores: 1050 / -
Hunter's average SAT/ACT scores: 1073 / -

^ i dont plan on goin gto baruch for four years, i am a community college transfer student.

I hated UCSD campus, and i know myself, i live in san diego, even with UCSD, i would just go to class and then go home. i am not a party person, i am looking for something different anyways... and staying at home is just NOT an option. i would rather commit suicide.

So... if i was an encoming freshman i probably woulndt pick baruch, but if i move to NYC, and i have to work and so on, atleast i would know i wont be missing much in baruch.

i dont know, i am confused, i have to wait for UCLA and CAL to make an informed decision i guess.

Good luck! :) I'm hoping only the best comes your way.

And hey, look at it this way: if you DO choose Baruch, at least you'll be in the city... and despite the school not being so-great, the atmosphere in the city is wonderful. :D

why cant there be a reputalbe city or state school in New york.
something similar to ucsd .. that would rock.

Ok i am resurecting this thread because even though i have been accepted to UCLA and am attending and HATING UCLA it appears that i am off to Baruch for spring semester.

All i can say is that a reaserach based university is NOT for everyone at all. I genuinly hate the classes at ucla and the whole college atmostphere, just is not for me. I know everyone will think this is weird.

Anyhow, anyone who goes to baruch want to shed some light on the type of financial aid they offer?
how hard are the coureses for the Finance/Investments and Accounting majors?

Are you allowed to double major in Finance/Investments and Accounting?

anything else you want to sahre about baruch would also be appreciated.

im in the cuny honors college at baruch..all i can say is that if it wasn't for the full tuition scholarship, the macbook they give us, and the thousands of dollar stipends provided...i would definitely not be going here. other than that...people who are on fin aid generally are pretty happy with it..and work-study opportunities are endless. yes..you are allowed to double major. and..most people think its a very 'business-oriented' school and thats what you go there for..and thats simply not true. the only reason its boasted for that is because it is the ONLY city college that is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), and has the best undergrad business school in nyc, right after nyu stern. but..the school has pretty nice facilities and great departments in other fields. while you can't apply to the cuny honors college through baruch as a transfer, baruch has its own honors program..which i think you should look into because UCLA is top-notch. (only thing is, you don't receive the macbook, and the scholarship)..but with the baruch scholars progam (not cuny honors), you also share some of the benefits with the cuny honors students such as priority registration for classes (first-day registration could be a great advantage because classes fill up fast), option of taking honors courses (class sizes are usually half the size of the regular classes), and you are assigned a personal advisor which you normally wouldn't get.

i cant enroll in honors, i have too many units.
i will be transfering over 75 units to baruch.

the honors thing had some good options too, sucks i cant enroll.
