has anyone transfered from Cali to Baruch?

I just found out I got into UCSD (without the TAG program)... does this mean I have a shot at NYU or BU or something good? Have I been selling myself short?

I still haven't heard from Baruch... but I was late with my application.

hmmmm.

how did you find out so early, and are youa pplying from california?

UCSD is the 7th public school in the nation, 32nd overall, NYU is 33rd, so yes... you probably could try for NYU, however NYU is private and ucsd isnt, so if your a california recident or from a community college in california there is some biased involved with them selecting you.

Yeah, I am transferring from a community college in san diego... so they may simply heart my demographic.

I also just found out i got into UCSD for the fall without the TAG program. and i got 12k in grants, so now ucsd is my official safety, in case every other school rejects me.

if i get into LA or Cal though i will probably go there instead of baruch. And then he (boyfriend) can transfer law schools, since he is applying to only Tier 4s , its not like he is going to be loosing much, where is if i get into cal or la and go to baruch, that would be lame.

i am bummed I didn't apply to any other UC other than SD. At the time, I was NOT planning on leaving San Diego, so I didn't even want to "jinx" my application... Now I really wish I tried Berkeley and other public schools that have earlier application deadlines.

doh.

i applied to other uc's because my application fee was waived and you can apply to 4 for free, so i figured why not since its the same application.

just an update, I got into baruch.. yaayayay!! i have a shcool in NYC

that's awesome (but you knew you were in, right? :p). How are your other schools lookin (CAL)? Also, where did you find out? Did they email you, or did you check their site?

well, i didnt "know" i was in, i mean college board says their accpetance rate is 36% but i figured that a 3.48 should be good enough for a transfer.

Cal, i have no idea until may 1st, and honestly i think cal and ucla are both up in the air, i just dont know.

i got into UCSD for the fall, UCSB i am waiting on, should be any day, CAL And LA i wont know until may1st ...

baruch i called the number
its 212 -997-28-69

what about Fordham? maybe you could get a scholarship there? just throwing out ideas. id say Fordham is definitely better than Baruch in terms of overall education.

Its interesting that they have a machine tell you that your accepted over the telephone. I called last year to see if they had everything I sent and I get an automated response saying I got in. It was ok I guess.

Congrats, hope you like it here.

Ok, honestly besides columbia and NYU .. no school in nyc compares to my options in california. ... ucsd is wayyyyyyyyyy better then baruch and i know that... i mean i have no idea where my bf will get into law school, so far he got into some weird school in florida and waitlisted in suny-albany, we are still waiting on CUNY-law, Brooklyn law (far far far reach) and vermont law school.
if he gets into vermont, oviously i am staying in california, and if he does get into a school in NYC , i might still stay if i get into berkeley or LA .

i really want berkeley for some reason... i mean la was above berkeley before but now i am all about berkeley

Malishka31, it sounds like you really don't want to go to Baruch - and if you do you may resent it. I would really think twice about the move if it really is only for your boy friend.

This is a huge decision.

well its baruch? i mean does it really compare to ucsd? how excited can i be about it when i alreayd have the option to go to a very good public school, versus going to one that isnt even ranked on any list by anyone?

i just looked at fordham by the way, and no way... 27k a year in tution and i would have to take the SATs to apply. that sucks.

Malishka,
Ya know I am in same situation, the idea of possibly moving to nyc to live with my long term bf sounded good before the reality set in, lol. Having recently been accepted to Rutgers and just 2 1/2 weeks ago applying to Hunter, I am having the same see-saw thing happening. I love nyc and would love to live there (cheaply) with my bf, but, if admission to one of the UCs came through... it'd definitely be a tough decision. It just doesn't seem possible that I would give up a stellar & cheap UC education in California to move to nyc and attend the equivalent of a CSU. Upside is, if i'm not offerred admission to any UCs, i'm a ny'er!

well will your bf move to cali if you got in to one of the UCs?

our primary issue is his law school, he didnt get a great lsat score and his gpa isnt stellar either, so getting into law school really creates some problems for us.

He is in California, but we live in different parts, he is serving closer to san diego. Last year he decided to move closer to home and since he already owns a place in brooklyn w/ the tenants lease coming up soon, it seemed like a good time to move back. He thinks most of the CUNYs are good schools and the experience will be comparable to the UCs. However, I doubt that and would prefer to wait until I graduate to move and he doesn't want to wait, blah... ugh, the drama.

ok, explain to him that no cuny can offer anything remotleycomparable to a UC. i think all of the UCs except for merced are the top 20 public schools in the nation... cuny doesnt even make that list.

I think he can easily stay in california for 2+ more yers until you graduate or until you can transfer to a comparable school, like NYU or columbia or something.

You are right and I am making myself clear about what I want for my education. Only thing is wherever he's stationed or transferred can't easily be changed. However, he doesn't have that long left, so it shouldn't be much of an issue. Though he makes it one, lol. Don't get me wrong, CUNYs aren't bad, but UCs can't be beat for price (as a resident) and prestige (for grad school apps). I know it sounds elitist, but I do want the best opportunities.
Thanks, Malishka :)

CUNY's are more like the cal state system in california. i believe most CUNY's do not have research level (Phd) programs
