My S applied for both programs and has not received an acceptance. The letter from Parks was the standard rejection but made it sound like he was accepted to the school-but we haven't heard. Anyone else or is this bad news?-( he did fit the requirements of both scholarships)

Our son has heard nothing on the Leaders scholarship or basic academic acceptance. He is applying for the Musical Theatre program which takes a while to wind down to a group of accepted students, so if we can only hear about everything all at once, I guess that's why? He applied and auditioned in November. We'll keep you posted if we hear anything.

it said on the leadership scholarship application that applicants would be notifed on march 21st, so i would think nobody would hear yet (im waiting on that too, but i seriously doubt ill actually get it).

I got rejected from the Parks--very standard letter. I was in the SAT range for Parks but not in the 5 % class rank range. But I thought i had excellent essays and I have lots of community involvement and EC, and I won a fairly big humanitarian award for my work with indigent children in Vietnam and Thailand (i live in Asia). I thought that might have impressed them even tho I was not up there academically (3.8GPA 2030 SAT (1330 old score of 1600) Did anyone out there make the finalist for the Park, I am just curious as to what they really look for. Was it all based on just GPA and SAT's. I wonder how much weight the essays held or the EC's held. My counselor said even tho I did not have the class rank they wanted --they may be impressed with all my other stuff, so I went for it and got my hopes up.... well now you know the rest of the story...

I also applied for leadership scholarship and I called the school yesterday.(if youare following who i am you all know that I am begging them for some merit aid, but IC has not budged on it) Anyway, They said it would be a few weeks before we heard anything. The woman in admissions said that the leadership scholarship ranged from 4000 to 16,000, but the application said 7000--does anyone know
how much itis really for?

It does not look good for me at Ithaca cause I have no aid at all. I even wrote to the Dean of the Park school appealing my case, but she did not answer me, which does not make me feel good. Although the admissions office has been gentle with me --but not budging.

I did get a 120,000 dollar full ride scholarship at Green Mountain College in VErmont, Anyone ever heard of it? It is not in the ranks of Ithaca, but it is nice. I still have not made up my mind. Still waiting to hear if Bard gives me any money, and still waiting to hear from Univ of Miami, I hear they have a good communications program---any one know for sure.

Thanks for listening. good luck on the leadership schol everyone.

ndd,
You have some impressive qualifications! I have heard of Green Mountain. I saw the name many times, when I went to Vermont for a few days. They made an offer that will be tough to turn down. I don't know anything about their academics though.

Don't count on Bard for too much. It is very expensive. My son's friend has a sister who attends. I have been told that their aid was very poor (this is a very middle income family residing in a modest home). It was very tough to send her there financially.

Do you qualify for financial aid?

re: parks & leadership

I didn't apply for the Ithaca Leadership Scholarship, so I'm no help there. But I was selected as a Park Scholar finalist. ndd, I have no idea what to tell you. They don't tell the finalists why they were chosen.

All I can tell you is that I had high test scores (old SAT 1600 out of 1600, 2 SATIIs 700+ out of 800) and grades (though I don't know how much weight they put on my grades since I am homeschooled). Strong essays and 5 strong teacher recommendations (the one required, plus two more with my reg. application for admission and two with my Parks Scholar app.). I think my ECs and volunteer work were pretty strong, too.

I don't know if that helps at all. I just honestly have no idea what else to tell you. Best of luck to everybody with the Leadership Award!!

TheatreChic...I was wondering if you had made finalist. I'm pulling for you, good luck, I hope you get it!

Thank you so much! Sorry I have not posted sooner. I was out of town for about week and its taken me a while to get back into the CC routine/addiction. :-)

wow, cant beat those SAT scores. Good luck to you and thanks for sharing. let us know how the finalist weekend goes and what you think of the program. is ithaca your number one choice? I suppose it is with the Parks opportunity. best of luck.

ndd,

Yes, at the moment Ithaca is my #1 choice, though I have never laid eyes on the school. Being there next weekend will help me decide for sure if it's the place for me. And scholarships will play a big part in what school I end up at.

Thanks, everybody, for the encouragement! I'll let you know how it goes. I hope that maybe I will have some of you as classmates next year!!! :-)
