Has Pitt ever told anyone that they'll wait for your 2nd SAT scores before deciding?

Hi, I applied to the school of nursing in late August and they got all my things by around September 5. I have a 3.73 GPA, 1830 (480M 670W 680CR) SAT, and I wrote a good essay. I say good because I did my best and wrote a gazillion drafts but I'm not a great writer. So it was good. I really bombed my SATs the first time I took them in June; I could not get a good pace in the math sections and i left 6-7 blank for each section. And, I'm not that great at math in the first place so it was a struggle. I noted on my app that I would be taking it again on October 5.

Anyways. So I heard back from them last week and they said they would wait for my second SAT scores to make their decision. OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS I am so nervous. Has anyone else gotten this response? I feel like it's the equivalent of "We like you butttttt you suck at math so if you can get your crap together you're in." I'd really like to know if anyone else has gotten this response, and how your results were. Pitt is by far my favorite school and it would be a dream to go there.

I have heard that Pitt likes to see a 600 minimum math score (though I am not sure if it is a hard and fast rule). From their response, it would seem like they are looking for an increase in the math, since your other scores are fine. A little more practice on the math portion, and/or some private tutoring, could go far in improving this score.

l8rg8r-- as you are probably aware, the school of nursing is one of the most difficult to get into. I agree with pamom59 that you should study for the SAT math section in particular. Have you taken the ACT? I would recommend it as many do better on the ACT than on the SAT’s. Here’s an old post with info on the School of Nursing which will give you an idea of how competitive it is. Best of luck to you!

and checking pitt’s website, it sounds like they superscore. please doublecheck but if so, all you need to study for is the math section this time around. I agree your CR score is solid. bummer that you have to retake whole SAT again but it will be worth it if you can get that math score up.

thanks. i’m figuring i need to break 600 to get into the middle 50% of students admitted into nursing. I’ve been studying all summer and even more since I got that letter haha so I do have my hopes up.

That’s a great attitude. Ask for help and go for it.

I took the SAT again today… the only section I am 100% positive I did better on was writing, which really helps with Pitt… lol. Finger crossed.

They superscore. But it’s really just the math that’s holding you back I think. Those two scores are great. You should take the ACT if this doesn’t pain out! And really just study hard for that. Pitt Nursing is fairly tough with the stats. Good luck to you. I’m hoping it works out!

Did I say “pain”? Lol well it is math. I meant PAN! Let us know how you fare.

Just wanted to drop a note that we’re still pulling for you l8rg

Thank you all for the well wishes, I got my acceptance letter today and I am SO HAPPY! I pulled my math score up to 630 with a LOT of studying and I guess that did the trick. :)

i saw ur note on other page but wow, that is a great jump in math. I was thinking it was 580 first time around. Congrats!!! so happy for u :)

Congrats!!

wonderful news and good for you!

Congrats and welcome to Pitt! The studying clearly paid off- that’s a huge jump!
