Has UMD ever rejected a well-qualified Applicant?

I am in-state for UMD and really banking on it to accept me as it is my only safety now (Just got deferred from UMich). I have a 1500+/1600 and a 3.95 gpa… For what possible reasons will UMD reject or waitlist me if any? Will i be an autoadmit? Thanks

Which major?

You will likely get admitted, but I think they get enough applicants that they do have to reject some very well qualified students. I have heard stories of people assuming they would get in, but they didn’t. Is your GPA weighted or unweighted? IIRC, many majors expect an over 4.0 to get in.

Hi, @1214mom, my gpa is unweighted… When you say majors expect over a 4.0, I assume you are talking about weighted? (B/c my school’s unweighted only goes up to 4.) Thanks

@chocoberries1 I am in the exact same boat as you. I am in state and have a 3.86 unweighted GPA and I have a 1600 on my SAT. I applied to the business school.

UMD student here. You have a very good chance of getting into UMD, but there is a chance you will get in as “Leters and Sciences” major because the Business School has a secondary and much more rigorous application screening.

“Ever”??? Probably.

But “Likely”?? That’s a different question.

But I wouldn’t count on ANY school as an “only” safety.

My son was accepted to the Smith Business School with similar stats and average extra-curriculars. I would be shocked if you did not get accepted to UMD, and I think very likely they put you in Honors or Scholars. Son is in Honors and received a 5k per year scholarship.
