Everyone is talking about the iPad, especially with the release of the 3rd iteration, just a week or 2 away.
I've been looking to get a tablet for sometime, but I wanted to wait until the technology advanced enough for such a purchase to be warranted.

You see, I have an iPhone 4, and it's been serving me well the year and a half I've owned it. I like the simple yet elegant feel of the operating system and the ease by which you can operate it.

Obviously the iPhone 4 is almost 2 years behind in technology compared to the soon to be released iPad 3, but with the iPad and the iPhone being so similar, is it just a waste of money to buy one?

I would love the bigger screen, the HD graphics and all that jazz, but are they just too similar?

Not don't go telling me about how "Androids are better" and so on so fourth. I just want an honest, unbiased opinion. Since I have an iPhone, should I even be thinking of getting an iPad?

I have both and in the end I use my iPad and phone interchangably depending on where I am. I have the same apps on both. Without budget constraints I would say “Buy it!”. But keep in mind that you are paying for both the iPad itself and then another $20 or so a month for a data plan. (I would only get an iPad that has 3G–or 4?)

However, if budget is a consideration I would put the money towards an Apple computer instead, especially if you are a student.

A 3G iPad is not an option just because of my iPhone’s monthly cost lol. But actually, I have a MacBook…I’m just looking for something where I can lay comfortably in bed or at a coffee shop, reading E-books and watching movies without having to lug around my 15inch, or squint on my 4inch. Just not sure if it’s worth it.

Does the iPad have any added (or shall we say, ‘different’) features?

The iPad is amazing. There are no dramatically different features from the iPhone except, of course, its design. And this design makes it significantly better than an iPhone.

It’s a better eReader, browsing tool, and iDevice game playing tool than the iPhone. Of course, its function is too limited to compare to a laptop except in the case of ereading and ease of use (where it dominatea).

I would not get an iPad. My family has an iPad, I have an iPhone, and a macbook. I find myself rarely ever using the iPad. If I’m out of the house, my phone can do all basic tasks that I need done. Texting/calling/email/the occasional game. At home, my macbook can do everything else. The only reason I would get an iPad is if you need it to do work while you’re traveling and a laptop is just too cumbersome.

However, I WILL say that our iPad (with 3g) was invaluable on my college trip. Google maps was insanely helpful. We could enter in our hotels, the colleges, and even parking garages beforehand.

I have an iPad and two iPod touches and a computer. I definitely am on the iPad way more than all the other devices, now that I have one I can’t live without it! Definitely worth buying it.
