@TTeddybro Did it you get a Green envelope in the mail that said ‘You’re the one’? It has almost that same identical info. But, it came Snail Mail.

@Erika9890 I just tried signing and it said “According to our database, you are NOT eligible to pay a deposit at this time.” And I didn’t get nothing in the mail yet but I heard you should get something in like a week or two.

@TeddyBro Did you try calling Bing, and asking them what it means? It sounds like the same exact info,
that came in my son’s packet.
That’s the same message we got when we first tried logging in there. I kept trying everyday to log in, and one day I could. Then packet came in the mail 2 days later.
I would def. call and ask what that Email means. It does sound promising though.

@Erika9890 No, I never received an acceptance email. It seems that you’ve recieved the acceptance packet! Congratulations! It is quite irresponsible, I agree. I might be wrong, but it seems like they’ve plenty of applicants and don’t see the need to get information out quickly. That’s been my take on their correspondence. I read of the quikpay loophole by reading past posts on here, and thank goodness for that. I went crazy after being able to log in, waiting for a concrete acceptance.

The admitted day for transfers was great! It rained, but I loved it even then haha. I was excited to see the dorms, because last time I wasn’t thrilled seeing them. In the summer we saw Hinman, and it was so tiny! This time we looked at College in the Woods, and, besides Hinman, from there the rooms only get larger. I was hoping to tour the other dorms, but that part of the tour was cancelled because of the weather. All in all, it looked wonderful and I can’t wait for the fall!

Glad you liked it! We were in Bing on Sat, and decided to stroll the campus. Beautiful sun, but VERY windy day!

I have a nephew that is a Senior at Bing. He told my son that CITW & Hinman weren’t very nice.
He likes Mountainview and Dickinson.
I know you had said you liked Mountainview and Newing. Have you made a decision?

I hear you about going crazy. Once we logged in, I kept checking everyday to make sure
we still could! 1 day the site was having issues, and I couldn’t log in. My heart fell out
of my chest(for my son). But, thankfully we got the letter in the mail that day!

I didn’t realize how many people actually applied until I got the letter. It said 33,000 total applicants.
I’m not sure how many transfers. That’s A LOT of people! Only thing is, the people deciding,
don’t lose sleep or meals waiting for the decision. Wish they could come up with a better plan.

Are you a member of an active Tranfers FB group, or know of one?

@ddotjon Thank you!
I assume you still haven’t heard? I didn’t want to keep asking you. But, I keep checking back, hoping you
have heard good news!

Hi Erika…no word yet from Bing, and now I am more anxious, cause he did not get into Stony Brook. I knew Stony Brook was a long shot, cause he applied one day before the deadline, and his GPA from 3 semesters at Hofstra was not quite a 3.0. So, he applied to UMASS yesterday, and if he doesn’t get into Bing, will apply to UDEL before the deadline of 5/1. The killer for me is he got into all these schools, some with merit money, as a freshman and chose to stay home last minute and go to Hofstra. OH WELL, hind sight is everything as they say.

ddotjon Yeah, it’s so normal that an 18 year old has no clue what they want at that age.
That’s quite an accomplishment he was accepted to all those schools though! It’s
a bummer the timing was wrong.
I hope you hear some good news from somewhere! Taking off a semester isn’t an option?

Well, he is only taking two classes this semester at community college, so I think it’s kinda like a semester off. He has a lot of AP credit, so he is not behind, but I don’t think having fall semester off would help. His transcript up till now is what it is, and he will certainly get in somewhere for fall, not sure where now but I hope we get it decided soon.

I hope you do too!
It’s not only stressful for our kids,
It’s also stressful for us too.
Let me know when you hear something.
It sounds like you have some good options
lined up.

Hey everyone, I was recently accepted to Bing through an email I received. The thing is, I was not accepted to the School of Management at Binghamton( I applied as an accounting major) because according to them it was highly competitive. The email then follows to state that I was instead accepted to the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences because of my strong academics. Should I accept to go to Harpur? Is it worth it? Will I be able to later apply to the School of Management? Can anyone tell me any more information on Harpur? I would greatly appreciate it if someone can answer these questions or shed some insight on Harpur. Thank you.

P.s. I was accepted to the accounting programs for University at Albany and University at Buffalo.

@AcctWhiz Congratulations!
My son was also accepted into Bing Harpur College. My son wants to get into the
SOM also. He has a 3.6, and will work hard to get those grades up so he can hopefully get into SOM. He is a sophmore. What is your gpa? What year are you?
I heard they want a 3,8 and higher for the SOM program, but don’t quote me.
We don’t know a lot about Harpur, but my nephew goes there an loves it! He said the Professors are awesome,
and the classes are challenging. He also went in as a Junior transfer, and has made a lot of good friends.
There’s another forum on here somewhere called ‘Ask a Binghamton college student anything’ or something like that. They might have more details for you.

@Erika9890 Thank you so much for your input :). I am currently a sophomore student, therefore, I would be a junior in the fall of 2014. My GPA is 3.5 but of course I’m willing to bring that up in order to get into the SOM program. Is Harpur competitive to get into and do you know if they offer dorming? I guess what my real question is if I’m better off: 1) Going to University at Albany or Buffalo which I was already accepted into the accounting program or 2) Going to Harpur since it gives me the opportunity into getting into the SOM program which has the best accounting program of SUNY (I believe) but the issue being that I’m not in the accounting program yet?

Maybe you could email someone in the SOM and ask them how many internal transfer applications were received last year, how many were accepted into SOM, and the average GPA for acceptance. This would help you prepare for what will be expected of you.

@Acctwhiz I’m probably not the right person to give that advice. You should call Binghamton/Albany/Buffalo and talk to a counselor from each school. They would be the most qualified to give you an opinion on what direction you should go.

I can tell you for my son, Binghamton is the only school he wanted to attend. UB or Albany wasn’t for him. He felt
at ‘home’ when he walked the campus at Bing. So, for him, not only was his education important, he also wants
to attend the school he was most comfortable with. If he doesn’t get into SOM, he will pursue a science
degree, and possible Pre Med. He vacillates between entrepreneur business and medicine. Quite the contrast. :)

Harper is VERY competitive! My son’s acceptance packet said "Congratulations, you have been accepted out of 33.000 applicants’. I think that is a total of Freshman and transfers.
Yes, they offer dorms. My son wants to live in either Mountainview or Newing. I would go onto the Binghamton
website, where they break down each living setting.

I think you have to decide if you don’t get into your program, is there any other program at Binghamton that would make you happy? If you don’t get into the SOM, that means you would have to transfer again to get the degree you want. Then you would have to go through the stressful process of being accepted again somewhere else. Something to really think about.

@AcctWhiz Sorry to hear that but you still have a wide variety of options available to you. I’m a freshman and an Accounting major in SOM and your basically in the same boat as i was this past year. I wasn’t accepted into SOM and was deferred to Harpur. Going into Harpur I knew i wanted to be in SOM more than anything but if worse came to worse i would end up majoring in Economics in Harpur. Now, that I’m in SOM I’m probably going to double major in Econ and Accounting. That’s how much i loved my professors and how they taught the material in Harpur.

So, you need at least 3 of 4 major requirements to transfer. Macro, Micro, Calc, Stats. I had fulfilled both stats and calc in high school so i took Macro my first semester as well as 4 other classes and ended up with a 3.87 GPA first semester. I then applied to transfer into SOM for the spring of 2014 (It’s a lot harder to transfer in the spring) and got in. It’s very due-able if you want it bad enough.

Don’t feel discouraged either because last year only 22% of applicants got accepted to SOM versus 40% for BU and the average SAT was 1346. Just shows how prestigious and competitive it really is but you got into BU so CONGRATS! If you have any questions about Harpur or transferring into SOM ask me anytime.
