Haverford Class Of 2009

I'm aware it will take time....plus...i've been kickboxing for a whilenow...its possible to kickbox without the money...hopefully it will work out...thanks for the info...I'll remember to come talk to you when I'm ready to start things up...Also i know that there will some stuff i dont like about haverford...thats part of the fun...complaining...but i chose the school cause i know there are a thousand things i love..

This post seems to be a little dead. Instead of talking about what we might not like about the school, let's talk about what we like. What made you guys decide to apply early decision to Haverford? What made you fall in love with it?

beautiful campus & duck pond, honor code, good science department among LACs, small student body, most of the people seemed really nice (and more laid back than other schools) every time i visited, good location because i didn't want to be in a city or a totally isolated place...

I second enw910's comment. I LOVE Haverford's honor code and how that promotes a place of such an atmosphere of integrity, respect, and noncompetitiveness. I like the small class sizes and the availability of the professors. I like the 99% acceptance rate to med school (none of the other top schools I visited were even in the 90s). And lastly, I like that how every person that I met at Haverford, from professors to admissions officers to students, were all such nice and warm people.

As a current student, I'd like to comment on a few of your comments. Yes, our campus is beautiful (runs on the nature trail and around the area our amazing). Our science departments are excellent (especially Biology, or maybe that's because I'm a prospective bio major....become a bio major, cough...). For the most part, classes are small, although, be warned that most 100 level classes do have over 25 students. The location is great in respect to a major city, but retaining this sense of privacy that our campus retains. I love the idea of the Honor Code, although, despite what many may think here, I still feel as though Honor Council can function as a punitive body. And, quite frankly, I think they went overboard with the "Muppets" incident (you can find out about that when you get here). As for the 99% acceptance rate to medical school, well, I'd have to say that's fiction just like every other college's medical school acceptance rate. The program is tough here, challenging and demanding. Typically, our pre-med advisor will be fairly blunt if she feels you can make it into medical school or not...so I feel as though many applicants are weeded out before applying. I will say that Haverford has a great reputation with graduate schools (specifically the science departments). However, admission to Haverford is not a ticket to med school. That requires just as much hard work and dedication as it would at any other institution.

Anyways, I think you all made a great decision in coming to Haverford. It's certainly a college of it's ups and downs, but I find at Haverford that life is more of what you make of it. I'm actually part of one of 23 Customs teams that will guide you through your first year at Haverford (I'm a Customs People (CPs) and will be living on the hall with my Customs Group...there's also PAFS, HCOs, OMAs, and UCAs...yeah, you'll get used to the acronyms).

I am really exicted about the admitted students program on Sunday, April 17th. Does anyone know what kind of things go on that day? Will they send out information about it to the ED admits?

I got into Haveford Regular Decision-NYC. I will be attending the multicultural weekend in mid-April. Should be fun!!! And I will be staying overnight.

How did you know that the multicultural weekend is in mid-april. Did your acceptance packet enclose information about multicultural weekend too?

Yea the package had info. on the multicultural weekend and the open house for accepted students. I think like Cornell they offer it exclusively to students who have never visited. I don't think they do it for ED kids. I don't know.

hey everyone,

it seems to be a common thing to say, but im another ED person who is really excited to be in and going somewhere so awesome! ive done a tour [last april] and an interview/overnight [this fall] which all went well and just made me more ready to move in there! also, do any of you have a live journal because there was a "haverford 08" journal made last year i guess and i looked for one for class of 09 but there was none to be found! so.. i dont know if anyone would be interested [i just found about college confidential today] and is more comfortable with the format of livejournal. at any rate, its great to finally talk to people like me [i dont know anyone from my town who even applied to haverford] and share our excitement!

more later

Hey all! While putting off writing a paper, I found this site, which is really exciting - I've been dying to find other future Haverford students. My name's Dacey, and I'm from Portland, Oregon, which isn't nearly as exotic as it sounds. I'm really excited to be going etc. etc., and I really hope I actually get to talk to some people (meaning Haverford people) before Customs.

The things that sold me on Haverford, besides the biggies (fabulous lib. arts college, Honor Code, next to huge city), were the duck pond, the black squirrel mascot, and the supposedly huge Bollywood collection. Because really, there are a million other fabulous liberal arts colleges that otherwise probably would have fit just fine. It's those little things that made it fit better, and made Haverford feel like it could be home (even though it also felt about 30 below zero when I visited). It also felt like people had a sense of humor there - some other schools I visited felt really uptight and uber-serious, which is no fun.

(P.S. I've heard since I was admitted that the actual mascot is a Quaker, but I know that's a vicious lie.)

Wait, what huge Bollywood collection?!

I'm a regular admit who's totally thrilled with Haverford. I can't wait for the Open Campus Day... is anyone here staying overnight?

My tour guide claimed that, due to space considerations, the video collection was divided between the three colleges as such: Swarthmore got Hollywood movies, Bryn Mawr got documentaries, and Haverford got Bollywood videos. She seemed rather put out by this, but thanks to Kal Ho Na Ho and my friend Shweta, I am addicted to Bollywood and so was thrilled.

Of course, I have no way to actually verify this...but I hope it's true!

hey guys.. i'm pretty much going to haverford!! woo can't wait =D

hi redbull, congrats and good decision:) we are gonna have so much fun at 'ford!

I second nrahman's congratulations, redbull298 :) Glad to hear that you'll be joining us in the fall at Haverford!

Congrats to all. I am a RD admit, and am pretty sure I'll be in the Haverford Class of '09. I'm hoping to go to the accepted students weekend (even though I visited Haverford for an overnight in February...)

Hey everyone...I was just accepted at HC to play soccer. Any other soccer recruits?

Hey all... I think I'm 99% sure I'll be at Haverford next year. I'm so excited for my overnight stay and open campus day... <--- is very excited!!
