Haverford RD Class of 2022

When you guys get your letters in the mail, can you let the rest of us know what state you live in? So we can see how fast the mail is traveling? Thanks!

@tonroxmysox wow. I’m not as freaked out about the scores as the percent URM. Maybe this is a trend for these east coast LACs and they really want half of the kids to be minorities so that everyone gets a diverse experience. That percentage leaves very little room for the regular suburban white kid who wants a small school with diversity though. Looks virtually impossible to get in. I’ll be curious when you all start posting decisions.

where did it say percent urm?
i saw percent students of color

@taxicab1729 Isn’t that the same thing? Or maybe Asian American isn’t in URM…

@homerdog yeah, asian american definitely isn’t URM. we have to score about 140 points higher on the sat than the average candidate to be just as competitive.

Being URM doesn’t feel as helpful anymore. That Colby rejection was a real kick in the nuts and I’m the top student at my little inner city school. Colby is very white too

I thought id be rejected cos of aid. I said i could afford 300$ and Haverford just asked for 100$. to future applicants, if you think youre a great fit for Haverford, the money is there - apply!

that makes sense, @bonusoceans . URM barely makes a dent anymore, or so ive heard.

Do you also get snail mail if you are rejected? Domestic.
That’d be cruel.

@smuvern you do get snail mail even if you’re rejected. It’s out of respect for your time

Respecting my time would be notifying me via the application portal like it’s traditionally done.

@afterthought ,
Congrats for your achievement!!
Could you please post some detailed stats including country? It would realy be great help!

@smuvern A mailed letter IS the traditional way. Application Portals and emails are relatively new. Schools that continue to notify via mail are quite proud of their traditions. If such things bother you, the school may not be a good fit.

@dscottvb Couldn’t have put it better

FYI, I emailed admissions since I have both a permanent and two mailing addresses, and they told me it would be going to my current mailing address and not the others. She said if no mail is received by March 30th that I should email admissions and they’ll email the decision.

PA people shd be receiving letters today according to the usps calculator

@harrya Sure!

Um, I’ll have to be sort of vague though- but, I got an (almost) full-ride to Haverford as an international from South Asia, so I get how it could be helpful for future applicants.

SAT I: (760, 760) Superscore
SAT II: Physics- 770, Literature- 740
7As, 2 As, and a B in O Level/IGCSE
3 As and a B in AS Level (you can’t get an A
is AS)
Predicted grades are 4 A*s, 1 A in A Level

My extracurriculars were neat- they showed deep commitment in my intended major (anthropology), like writing and getting invited to publish my own research (at a not-so-selective high school research journal, though), researching with a professor, collecting narratives etc. I also showed a little bit of breadth by discussing my work in a humor magazine, some environmental work that I did, and being a writer for an international teen magazine.

Essays: Definitely what got me in- I’ll update these as soon as I get the rest of my decisions.

Honestly, the gist of it all is that I tried to create this ‘niche’ for myself- like, I feel that applications are simply a practice of marketing yourself in the best way possible (and I hate this idea in principle, but I had to suck it up). You need to create an immediately identifiable label, like ‘that quirky, artsy STEM dude’ or ‘that Shakespeare enthusiast who wrote her own poetry book’. Develop this niche with accomplishments and extracurriculars, and reflect this in your essays- though, obviously, it’s okay to move beyond your labels.

College Confidential and r/applyingtocollege have been tremendously helpful throughout the process, and I’m more than happy to help out the same anxiety-ridden applicant who was in my position scared about the future. Good luck, and you guys will all get somewhere amazing!

Quick thing, Haverford students don’t usually share their scores and grades, but I definitely see how it’s helpful for future applicants
No rudeness intended

@taxicab1729 None taken!

I always thought stats meant, like, actual statistics, so I thought it’d be incomplete without it.

Accepted!!!
