Having Classes Right After Each Other

I am an incoming freshman and was messing with possible schedules on Course Rank and was wondering if it is possible to have Lectures/Discussion/Labs right after each other. Nearly everything is in either 1 hour or 1.5 hour blocks, and being unable to have classes right after each other really limits the number of possible schedules one can have.

Is it possible to have a class that runs from 3:00 PM -4:00 PM MWF and a class that runs from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM MWF? All of the schedules (that I've checked) on Ninja Courses gives me classes stacked right after each other, but I hardly doubt I can get from one place to the next in 0 minutes.

Yes, you can.

Berkeley time = when a class says it starts at, say, 3 o’clock, it actually starts 3:10. That 10 minute passing period is what you use to hustle yourself from one class to another.

if theres really a class you need to be on time for (like lab), then try to not schedule back to back. otherwise, its definitely possible to get around in 10 min. and if you are late to lecture, no one cares (im talking about those pimental-size lectures lol). for time purposes, ive done vlsb to pimental and dwinelle to stanley in 10 min, and thats uphill, dont think it gets much worse than that! :/

I actually prefer having back-to-back classes because you don’t have to waste time (on campus) as much. It might seem like too much of a rush at first, and you might find yourself scarfing down lunch while walking to your next class or during lecture. I had back-to-back classes and work from 8 am to 5:30 pm on Wednesdays during my first semester as a freshman. (This is extreme, and I don’t recommend it.)

:) The longest back-to-back class “hike” I’ve heard of was from Kroeber to GPB. Takes about 15 minutes minimum with pedestrian traffic. The student who had this ordeal had to leave class early 5 minutes every time.

Yup. Everybody at Berkeley soon learns about Berkeley time, which just means 10 mins later.

So classes usually officially start 10 mins after, as lolumad said.

Freshman year, I had Haas -> Tolman. It was pretty bad. While there is Berkeley time, do check out where your classes on the map. Back-to-back classes across campus are not fun.

bike…but don’t be one of those douch es that uses a mini skateboard and goes so fast that you lose control

Unless you can watch the d ouc h fall on his ass :]

well that’s the best part of hanging out on memorial glade

…that and all the half naked people playing ultimate frisbee :D

hah I just asked someone the same thing through a PM and didn’t see your post, and he/she told me about berkeley time as well. You have 10 mins at the beginning of class till it actually starts from the scheduled time.

as for bikes…are there a lot of bike racks near by?

biking saves a lot of time, not many are stolen on campus, there are enough places to lock them, don’t ride too fast, don’t ride on non-bike designated areas, wear a helmet…you will fall at least once, when you hit someone come up with a good excuse.

have fun

I’m planning back to back for courses, discussions, and lab that are a part of the same class. Then there are a bunch of other students/GSIs who have to make it to the class and they’re typically close. That way while I’m thinking about the lecture I can do the discussion, then afterwards do the lab.

I think this will work well, because it will give me a good transition time between classes to finish work for the first and then switch to the next class and get totally prepared for that.

I wouldn’t plan to have a back to back with two classes that don’t pertain to each other though, especially if they’re far away.
