Having second thoughts... please help me!

I'm having second thoughts on the colleges that I'm applying too and I feel like I should be applying to different schools and that I'm scared that I'm not going to get accepted anywhere. I'm sending out my applications tomorrow and I have so much anxiety over it. I also feel like my essay isn't good enough, I wrote about my grandma teaching me how to draw.

-I'm applying early decision to SUNY Geneseo
- Regular decision to Uni Delaware, Uni Rhode Island, SUNY Oneonta, SUNY Binghampton, and SUNY stony brook

My SAT score is terrible, 1570

My GPA is a 3.75 unweighted, my 48 out of 371 I've taken AP science courses and accelerated math, I'm in science honor society, kickline, soccer, dance, a community service club, and class council. I also volunteer at a nature center and am starting to volunteer at a hospital. I want to major in Biology.

Besides geneseo I feel like I haven't really found a college match for me and I'm just applying to the rest of the colleges just to apply somewhere or because its cheaper becasuse I live in NY

First, take a deep breath and relax; I feel the same way, BUT YOU WILL BE FINE! Thinking about this too much might make you want to apply to 15+ schools, so before that happens, I advise you to take a week off from college nonsense. Give yourself 7 days to recharge and breathe in fresh air to cool your mind; watch netflix, play an instrument, sing songs, SLEEP, etc. Many seniors have been fretting for months without taking a break, so I recommend you taking one now before it becomes detrimental.

thanks so much! I’m just scared I’m missing out a college to apply to or that I should apply to a few more out of state. I feel as though my essay isn’t that great either and I don’t know how to improve on it before I send it out to Geneseo tonight.

I’d talk to your counselor if you really want to look at more colleges for regular decision; otherwise, 6 is a very nice number for your college list! Don’t change anything major on your essay now! Second doubts are very misleading and are a product of anxiety. Trust your instincts, and just submit it. Make sure to submit soon too (do not wait until 11:30pm) because a lot of students may be submitting late and that could be cause for technical difficulties…a frenzy of which you do NOT want to be a part.

Check out Wheaton (MA), Wells, Elmira, Alfred, West Chester ¶.
Your essay needs to start with an anecdote that takes the reader right into the “action” you’re describing, make him/her experience what you experienced (with sounds, smells, feelings, sights, etc), then use this anecdote as being a revealing piece of who you are, and explain how this moment is important or pivotal for you, and how you’ve changed since.
Geneseo is within reach. Good luck!

thank you!

If you mean 1570 out of 2400, I would have to say that I think Geneseo and Binghamton are reaches. If it is 1570 out of 1600, you are most likely in.

If you are 1570 out of 2400, you have a long shot at Oneonta , depending on the individual scores, ie. verbal, math , writing.

I also think it is a long shot at Stony Brook if you are 1570 out of 2400. 1570 out of 1600, yes, a possibility.
