well, so far I have no word but it’s still fairly early so i’ll be checking my mail. my mail has a slight tendency to come late anyway so it gives me a bit more hope. thanks for rooting for me!

So I was given a Chancellor’s scholarship today… I’m a male from MN (I know, not too close). Basically I applied to Pitt in a hunt for full ride opportunities, which clearly worked. I visited for the interview and loved it, and now will almost surely attend. I picked Pitt over Colgate and Middlebury. There is something about having all those resources and research opportunities available that I couldn’t turn down. Pitt has really figured out to how to work the system- I loved how personal my experiences with Pitt were, and they seemed genuine in wanting me to come to the school, something I didn’t get at any “elite” universities.

Congratulations!!! Now we have 3 Chancellors Scholars on this board, and hoping for more.

All our winners are male and from out of state! what are you planning on studying?

Congratulations! Supertme, what do you plan to study? My son (CuttingEdge on this board) is studying Philosophy and Microbiology and d101’s son is studying Engineering, I believe.

My son feels much like you do…the opportunities were just too good to pass up and starting grad school debt free = priceless. He turned down Chicago (his dream school) and Northwestern and a couple others. He was a little sad about Chicago but I think he seems very happy and excited about Pitt.

d101 did your son decide on Pitt or is he going to Illinois?

They said everyone should know by tomorrow right? But then somone said they are interviewing this week so I am a bit confused but still hoping for our cc’ers.

I’m definitely not sure yet, but I indicated economics as my most likely major. I’m also considering biology (of some sort) with the intention of entering the medical field as it is as recession-proof as possible. I am also considering philosophy, I will hopefully double major in some way. I will have lots of IB credits which should help take care of a lot of my prerequisite classes. It is very likely that I pursue business/medical school after undergraduate, so it didn’t make sense to take out 100k+ in loans to attend Colgate or Midd.

Another question- where are the other Chancellor’s scholars planning on living? I know Honors housing is in forbes, which I saw (it was a bit of a walk, but not too bad). I feel like the best way to motivate myself would be to live with other high achieving students who want to succeed. I also would rather my dorm not be party central. While I will definitely meet new people while I’m there, I would rather have a quiet dorm to study/sleep in. Which dorm will you all choose?

He is attending a program at Illinois this weekend, and told Dr. Stewart he would let him know Monday. He would most likely apply to Forbes to live. Pitt is a very exciting opportunity but he already had this program at Illinois planned and thought he should attend just to make 100% sure.

No word yay or nay??

I was really hoping we would have a clean sweep on this board for Chancellors. I am hoping everyone is so busy celebrating they can’t take the time to post??

Congratulations to your son. My daughter will be attending Pitt this fall as well. She agonized over Chicago, Georgetown, or Pitt, but the $$$ was too good to turn down at Pitt. She talked to three physics students on her visit to campus and all three said they chose Pitt because of the great scholarship offers. It is great for me to hear all these great kids talking about going.

It’s the 16th and I haven’t been told my decision, either way. What should I do? =/

I havent heard back either… but I called the honors college on tuesday, and they told me that the final decisions should be made by next monday and that winners would be notified by overnight shipping (the big red envelope)… anyone who doesnt get the scholarship will be noitified by regular mail though… so theoretically, some winners might not hear back until next tuesday… : /

Next Tuesday then. =/ Man, can’t they just send us an e-mail?

Well I may not actually be a chancellor’s scholar (still hoping) I’m going to be applying to the honors dorms. they were a lot bigger than the towers room I saw and I think the atmosphere will be really nice. plus they have a little grassy area. im very excited for sun and grass (I miss them).

I am still hoping for you guys!

I think my son is definitely wanting Forbes. He didn’t get to see the inside of the dorms when he visited but he wants to be with the honors kids and involved in the honors programs. He is someone who thrives on interesting conversations and does better when surrounded by people who are bright and challenge him. On the other hand, he likes to have fun and laugh and hang out, so I think the Honors Dorm would be a good place to find like minded kids.

Anyone else going to do sports? I know my son wants to join the rugby team (he likes to wear casts and break his bones and worry his mother).

My daughter may look in to clubs for running and rowing. She is applying to Forbes and also did the application for the global community–or whatever they call it–as a second choice. The housing packet came today, so she will fill that out this weekend.

Son will do Forbes as well, and will DEFINITELY be very involved in sports.

I interviewed late March and, like a few others on this forum, am anxiously awaiting what Tuesday’s post will bring. That Pitt will be my college destination is almost certain, but a big red envelope would be a boost like none other. I congratulate the three who have earned it, and I am looking forward to joining you in the hills of Pittsburgh (preferably in Forbes Hall.)

I question whether my decision to read this thread has quelled or increased my anxiety, but nevertheless, doesn’t information always beat out ignorance? (Sure sounds like a question from the CS application)

I interviewed early in March and am rapidly losing hope. I’ve already mailed in my deposit, so Pitt is going to be my college no matter what, but not having to worry about that money would be beautiful.

Congratulations to the three who’ve gotten their letters, and best of luck to those who are still waiting.

(And yes, I’m not sure if I feel better or worse after reading this thread.^)

Welcome to the two newbies, Nemo and Gwolf!

I think it must be a really tough choice for the committee. It sounds like they had some fantastic kids to choose from and only 12-15 scholarships to give out. That must be wrenching for them to whittle it down.

I believe last letters go out for Tuesday BUT then if some people turn it down I think they still give the money out eventually. So, it still might not be over.

The Chancellors is nice because it gives so much peace-of-mind (especially in this economy) but they don’t have more priviledges (much to my son’s regret ) so I am glad to hear that so many of you are still coming to Pitt and planning to live in Forbes, because I know my son is looking forward to getting to know the Honors kids.

He is off at a rugby tournament today. Keep your fingers crossed he comes home without any injuries!

Well, no letter in the mail today, so that finishes that. I am (so very) extremely thankful that I have full tuition and am looking forward to seeing you lovely people on campus in the fall.

And thanks for the welcome!
