Help! Advice on Withdrawn Acceptance

So I was rescinded for a D in my AP Calc AB class during my second semester of my senior year due to a serious medical condition. I was out for weeks! I sent in an appeal letter explaining my situation and provided documents showing proof. However, all they did was send me this:

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions has received your admission decision appeal. Upon a thorough review of your file, we are unable to reverse our decision.

As indicated on your Provisions of Admissions, which you acknowledged when you submitted your Statement of Intent to Register, you were to receive 'C' grades or better in all courses in your senior year. Unfortunately you did not meet this provision and, therefore, your admission to UCR has been revoked.

For general information on how to achieve eligibility to UCR, you can go to our Future Students Web Site at Home MyUCR:, click on Prospective Students, and then click on Admission Information.

We encourage you to retain this letter for your records. Thank you for your continued interest in UCR. We look forward to your future application once you have established eligibility.

Office of Undergraduate Admissions
University of California, Riverside

Are you serious?? It doesn't even look like they read my letter and just emailed an automated response!! What should I do now? Community college has already started and UCR starts in about a week. I still want to attend UCR. Is there anything I can do? They said that I could be reinstated if I had a good and proveable excuse. Some students were even lucky enough and were allowed to stay without appealing!

You’re right - it looks like they didn’t even bother to review your case.

I’m an incoming student so I might not be of much help but have you tried calling the Office of Undergraduate Admissions? If you live nearby, you could try going there but I’d call first to make sure you bring a copy of exactly everything they need to review your case. Make sure you get the name of the person that answers the phone.

Best of luck!!

Tough luck. The message is definitely an automated message. However, if you were accepted on a provisional admission then you MUST complete the conditions prior to acceptance. I doubt you are able to appeal the rescind because the quarter begins in five days and there is a limit to the number of students the institution can accept-which the institution has probably fulfilled by now. Not to mention, I have never heard of someone being able to appeal a rescind on a provisional admission. You should definitely contact the undergraduate admissions office, but do not keep your hopes high.

Yeah, I guess I should call in… but c’mon! I was out sick for weeks! Have they no sympathy?? Many students have gotten away with their D grades… Talk about bad luck!

I’m so sorry. Keep us updated!

Yea… I got my my acceptance rescinded because UCR didn’t get my transcript because it somehow got lost in the mail. After sending in like 6 appeals… they readmitted me in August.
Uhm, when i went to riverside I basically heard a few of the people in the Undergraduate Admissions office talking about appeals.
Basically, they had an extra 1300 students this year because they sort of overadmitted students so they’re pretty much doing anything to kick people out.
Of the 100+ appeals sent in, only 2 people got back in.

The message you got was the automated message btw.

Send your appeal in by fax and by email a few more times.
Chances are anyone with the power to readmit students hasnt seen it unless you’ve gotten an email that says its been forwarded to an appeals board or something.
If you dont live that far away from UCR i suggest you call and make an appointment (maybe walk-in…idk) and go the office and bring all your proof and an official copy of your transcript.
Best of luck.

omg lianabanana thank you so much for telling me. 1300?? wow, how is that possible?! and only 2 people got back in??! I didn’t know you could send in more than one appeal.

Some people got to stay in UCR without even appealing…

Yeah I am definitely calling in first thing monday morning to fight for my spot back. AND i will make a walk-in appt.

1300 extra because the paper pushers inside the offices are not UC graduates?
