Hey i'm looking to either stay in California or go to the East Coast to the Boston/New York area. Im gonna apply to some ridiculous schools that i almost know i wont get into but just to take the risk. If you could tell me where i could get in other than where i am going to apply, or tell my my chances at where im going to apply.

Applying to: UCLA,UCB, Boston College, Boston University, Georgetown (huge longshot i know lol), UCSD, UCSB, SDSU

GPA: 3.6
College: Pierce CCC
Major: Philosophy
EC: Philosophy Tutor, High School Basketball Coach, Business Internship, Community Service at an Animal Hospital.
IGETC: Complete
Pre reqs: Will Be complete

in at LA, SD, and SB.
i can’t accurately gauge the shot at Cal, because they rejected me with ~3.5 when i had taken nearly every philosophy course (or its equivalent) at Pierce and SBCC, had what i’m sure were at least above average essays, worked ~25 hr/wk forever, and had just about the steepest upward academic trend i’ve yet seen… i’m so bitter.

as for the privates, i think some of the decision will be based on your high school performance / test scores. not sure though… good luck.

Why is Gtown a “huge longshot” but Boston College is not? From a “statistical” standpoint, the admit rate for transfers to BC is WAY lower than Gtown.

I think you’re in at UCSD, UCSB, SDSU
If you write a compelling essay and build a strong app, I’d say your also in at BU, Cal, and UCLA

Your GPA is a tad low in comparison to BC’s and Gtown’s average, (3.8) however, I definitely think it’s worth applying! If you have the SAT scores, good recs, and solid app, then you definitely have a shot! Good luck!

@ Supa
i didnt realize that the acceptance rate is lower at BC and Gtown. I assumed it would be harder to get into Gtown because i normally see it ranked lower than BC in national rankings.

my sat score is pretty low like 1400, what do you think about retaking it?? Has anyone else done this

Right now UCLA is my first choice because it is close to home and much cheaper…but my girlfriend is going to BC next year, so i wanted to apply and leave myself the option to potentially go there if we become very serious
