Help.. Feel hopeless

Okay, I made it through freshman year. Just barely passed with a 2.0 sophomore year I took off because of laziness and depression. Now I'm in public school and miss at least one day a week, because I'm tired of moving schools. I move at least once a year because my parents decide to do so, so I have 0 motivation. It's the second quarter and I'm sure I have terrible grades from missing school so much. What do I do?

Why do you miss so much school? One way to get better grades is to try to attend school every day, if possible. Work with a tutor, ask your teachers for help and or extra credit, and work hard to bring your GPA up. Do ALL your homework, try not to procrastinate, and GET MOTIVATION. it’s hard sometimes, but school is very important.

@RickOwens‌, I’m obviously not a doctor, but it sounds to me like the issues here are not mere “laziness” or procrastination. If you feel depressed (or as you phrase it, chronically hopeless) to the point where it interferes with basic functioning in your life, such as attending school, it is time to seek professional help. I completely understand the situation you are coming from as I have seen people in my family and school community suffer through similar things, and in all of those cases therapy and support were paramount to overcoming inertia and starting to feel good about life again. Maybe you can talk it over with your parents or school guidance counselor as a start.

In the mean time, try to remember you have plenty of time to change things, and the future still has so much potential. All the best :)

Make an appointment with your school counselor, stat. Explain to her/him everything you wrote in your first post, and how it’s affecting your life (academically and otherwise). Your teachers and counselors can’t help if they don’t know.

Thanks… But I just feel hopeless like I’m gonna fail
