Help me decided on which program to go to.

OK, so I was just wanting feedback to help me make a decision of which summer program to go to. Before anything, for all these programs I had to apply and they were vary selective. First off, I got into Operation Catapult at Rose Hulman which is the longest and most in depth of the summer programs I am looking at. It will help me decide if engineering is what I want to do. My problem about it is few have heard of it and I don't know if it will look good on my college resume compared to the other programs I can go to. Also, it is #1 in it's category (being engineering schools with the highest degree being a masters) but is not well known to big name universities.

The next summer program is Explore Your Options 2011 at U of I. This is a school I am actually looking at and has a really good rating and such. But, it is only a week long and not as in depth.

Next, I have The National Student Leadership Conference which randomly got in the mail. I am doing this so i can get more "leadership" on my resume and also for the hell of it. I could do it at either University of Maryland (also highly ranked) or Cal Berkley. The only problem with going to Berkley is it is on the same date as Rose Hulman. Another thing about this program, the conference is just being held there, not sponsored by the schools. Which is another question I have to ask. Is this program worth doing?

So thats it, Help me decide which summer program will help me the most to get into a great college!
Thanks for bearing with me

Don’t do NSLC - it is a waste of money and will not boost your resume at all.

My vote would be for Rose-Hulman. Agree with iceui2 that NSLC won’t really boost your resume at all. Since the U of I program is only a week and not very in-depth, I think Rose-Hulman is a better option. I disagree with your assessment, I think within the academic community Rose-Hulman is pretty well known. And if it gives you insight into engineering careers, that is very worthwhile as well. It will make your college search (and essays) a lot easier if you know for sure that you want to be an engineer!

I agree that Rose-Hulman is probably the best choice out of those three, and I have found that they are pretty well known in the technical/engineering field. I know a recent graduate of the institute who currently a mechanical/robotics engineer, and he says it is one of the more engaging “nerd” schools.

Choose based on which one you think you’d benefit from and enjoy the most. None of these programs are strong resume builders, other than possibly when you apply to the host school of the two that are school-hosted. If you attend Catapult and then matriculate at RHIT, based on past years you would probably get a small scholarship from the school.
