Do you apply for a specific school on the BU application?
If so can you please rank them on “hardest to get into - not as hard” Please also tell me which schools look at the person more than the stats and what not.

Thanks

Umm yeah you apply to a specific school on the BU Application because you have to declare an intended major or at least a school at which you wish to be undeclared. This is pretty much so they don't admit a class and find out later they all want to study at the school of social work (one of the smallest on campus)

Uh as for difficulty levels that's hard to say.. um vaguely I'd say School of Engineering, Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, and Communications are among the more difficult while Arts and Sciences and General Studies are on the easier side of the spectrum. However, wait for more responses cause I'm pretty sure people will have way different opinions, biased or otherwise.

Can you apply to CGS?

Good question and I think the answer is yes. Umm I vaguely remember at orientation a few weeks ago this kid had mentioned he applied to CGS directly.. he was ridiculed shortly thereafter haha. Don't apply to CGS directly even if you can. Just apply to the school and major that interests you and if you are rejected you will automatically be considered for CGS.

Are you not confident in your admissions credentials? What are your stats and such?

You can check past posts because this question has been asked before. Not counting CGS, SEP, SMED, and CFA (which are special programs with higher or lower requirements than usual) no school at BU is easier or harder to get into than another. The schools vary in size becasue of the different numbers of people that apply to it. And the SAT scores of each school vary slightly just becasue they do. BU looks at the whole application package, so a variance in SAT scores does not reflect more or less stringent admission standards.

Also, the admissions people all look at applications for all schools. So they don't have different criteria as far as what to look at. This is mostly because a lot of people change their minds once they get to college. It wouldn't be fair to have different standards at each school and still allow people to transfer within BU without extra application processes.

I applied Early Decision to CGS because it's the school I wanted to go to. Dont listen to DJ because that's garbage.

relax lobos I don't even think BU admissions officers would recommend applying directly to CGS. I have nothing against CGS and honestly think it's a great way to either figure out what you wanna study or matriculate into another BU school... but honestly should have just applied to a school that interests you because you'll have to pick one two years later anyway. I mean worst comes to worse you get denied and still find yourself in CGS anyway.

CGS is a school...

They dont always necessarily give you a CGS option. They didnt for one of my friends as far as I know.

loslobos do you mind telling me your stats/ECs please? Because that I might be a path I would take.

Thanks

I'll PM you.

I PMd you back. check it out.

so I guess I said CGS isn't a school?

My point was that CGS was the school that interested me. Yes, I wish to go on to SMG eventually, but I like the CGS program. Even If I couldve gotten into SMG directly, I wouldve opted for CGS first.

I just find that hard to believe.. but whatever floats your boat... I guess.

ummm why? CGS isnt some remedial school--it's a great well rounded education before starting a major.

And yes BU admissions office people do tell people that sometimes applying directly to CGS works for someone. It's all about personal preferences and what people think of the program offerings.

That's all true and it's just not something I would "recommend" since we ARE all trying to give the best advice we can. It will all work out no matter which way you go about it. Why so defensive about CGS actually "being a school" and not being "remedial"? I didn't suggest anything of the sort. Sounds more self conscious if you ask me.

Not really. You're saying what admissions is not necessarily saying. They do often recommend applying directly--especially if it interests you.

I think if it came down to it admissions would recommend applying directly to the boston university school of suicide bombing if they thought they could convince someone to pay tutition there..

whatever dude.
