Help please! :)

Ok my first question is about my chances for getting in

3.55 gpa, unweighted (I go to one of the hardest high schools in the nation, and the grading scale is from 94-100 for an A. Ranked the 50th top highschool. I think my gpa is probably my weak link though, and i dont know if they are going to factor our weird grading scale)

7 ap classes, all my classes have been honors except 1 science class

SAT:2090 730 reading, 670 math (1400 on old scale). Im going to be retaking it though, and i pretty much know i can get higher then 2150

APs: AP lang/comp 5, AP US history 5, AP Calc AB 3, AP Gov, AP Stat, Ap Env Science, AP Lit

EC: this is also a weak point for me, because I really didnt get involved until junior year.Main ones are: Robotics club, Volunteer Coaching, Computer Graphics (designed logos for clubs, and a buisness, as well as t-shirts for a company), Soccer, Basketball, Spring track, Varsity Volleyball, Working as a referee for 5 years, and 300+ other working hours

Recs: will be exellent, one from hist teacher, eng teacher, mabye math or psych teacher?

Essay: Dunno yet, ive written it but i have to talk to my teachers to see if its good or not

Also, ive heard that greek life really dominates life at elon. I probably wouldnt join one.. just because im not into that as much, but Id certainly go to a few parties. Anyway how much does greek life really effect the campus? Also are the people generally nice and smart. Because id really rather go to a place where a majority of the people are itelligent, creative people...

And how hot are the girls? :D

You should be able to get in. those are really good stats!

I'm a parent of someone who's applying and I agree with Surf. I guess nothing is guaranteed, but you are above Elon's 75% level on both math and verbal (well above on verbal). With the GPA, keep in mind that Elon will re-calculate your GPA, giving weight to your AP classes -- you might want to do the same so you can figure out what your GPA will be after Elon gets done with it. Basically, add 2 points for AP classes, 1 point for honors classes, and only look at "academic" courses, not stuff like health or computer programming.

Also, I'm not sure that you'll have to worry about recs for Elon. They aren't required, though if you submit them I guess they'll take them into account.

With your stats, I would definitely encourage you to apply for the scholarships as well. Good luck.

PS I defer to Surf on the social/greek/party question. I probably don't want to know :)

Greek life, here we go...
Something like 35% of kids go Greek. Sometimes it seems like EVERYONE is Greek, and sometimes it's like we don't even have a Greek system here. In classes, you're going to have a few Greeks in them-Monday's Pin Day and Tuesday's the day you see everyone with their Greek shirts on (for sororities, anyway.)
The thing that's awesome about it is that it's a deferred rush, so you wouldn't have to decide if you want to do it until after Winter Term. I came in this year not really wanting to rush, but after meeting a lot of very nice sorority girls, I want to go through Recruitment! My roomie wanted to do it, but now she doesn't think she going to go through with it. (We are both soph. transfers)
Anything else you guys want to know?

Surf, my son has visited twice (once during the academic year, once during summer) and was really taken with the friendliness on campus. Have you found that to be accurate? I suppose that just about anywhere you're going to see cliques and the like, but is Elon generally free of a lot of "grouping" (particularly Greek vs. non-Greek, white vs. minority, jocks, etc.)?

With campus activities, how easy or difficult is it to get actively involved?

Thanks Surf, hope you're enjoying your first Semester at Elon.

Everyone on campus is REALLY nice. Being from Boston and spending a year in Boston going to school, I'm kind of used to people not being wicked friendly, but everyone here is nice. I was a little taken aback by it at first, but now I really like it! The school has the feel of being a little community--usually called "the bubble" by students.
Obviously, the students who spend a lot of free time together-the athletes, Greeks, etc., but even though I'm not Greek, I have friends that are in the system. I can't say much from the minority angle though, I'm blonde haired and blue eyed :)
Finally, it's really easy to get involved on campus if you want to! I've only been here for a little over a month, but I'm already in a few groups on campus and I'm working on starting a club gymnastics team. If your son wants to do something on campus, I don't see why he wouldn't be able to get involved!

Thanks a bunch guys!

ive scheduled a visit in nov so it should be alot of fun

I really like what you said about everybody being friendly and not as clique-ish, because my school right now is kinda the opposite of that :)

cant wait to see for myself

for the minority cliques, it's not bad at elon compared to every other school i've visited below the mason dixon line. i visited schools like duke and wake forest and there seemed to be a real antimocity between races. at elon it's just that a high percentage of the minorities are in historically black fraternities. it's still easy to talk to anyone, but being white i don't come across them as much. freshman it's another story. everyone is completely equal and i have friends here of every race size religion etc.
