So I am a RISING SENIOR
I have a 2.6 gap so far but junior year I got a 3.4 and I didn’t start my high school career out well…
I play football, lacrosse(both varsity) and I also do basketball, and strength and conditioning
im 6’4" 230lbs
I plan to major in Biochemistry or Biology
and I have more than 100 hours of community service
My sat is 1420
My question is do I have a chance to get into the university of Michigan Ann harbor???
It’s quite a reach. Perhaps a very slight hope if you are in-state and forgot to mention having some good AP scores, but biochem and bio are popular pre-med majors and future doctors tend to have much stronger applications.
Definitely have some safeties you love.
To be honest, a 3.4 overall, let alone just Jr. year, would make you “quite a reach”.
Realistically, you need a GPA of at least 3.8 just to have any hope for admission. Umich is one of those schools which is quite strong, thus a decent number of students with excellent grades and test scores still get turned away each year.
GPA is a big factor in admissions. It’s hard to say given all your extracurricular activities and the vast improvement with your grades, but most students have no lower than a cumulative 3.5. I think ultimately grades and test scores are the biggest determinant however, and there will be tens of thousands of applicants just like you and tens of thousands of applicants with perfect scores and grades. I wouldn’t discourage your from applying - you may get deferred but then they’ll have a chance to take your first-semester senior year grades into consideration as well. I would certainly have a few back up schools in mind (and maybe one safety that you really love), but applying is always worth a shot.
I think it kind of depends on the school @umcoe16 . My high school is a pretty big feeder to Michigan, and is also full IB, so I was able to get in with a 3.73.

Michigan is a high reach, but there may be other characteristics besides GPA that get you in.
Will you get in? Not a chance. (In my opinion)
However…if you go to community college for a couple of years…four point everything and prepare for your major…you could conceivably get in as a transfer.
There are valedictorians who get eaten alive by UMich’s BioChem program. A struggling student who hasn’t mastered the discipline to get outstanding grades in high school doesn’t stand a chance. Sorry.
Good luck.
