Help, Recommendation and Chance

<p>Hey I'll make it quick, I am from India I graduated from a local high school this year (2012-2013) I researched a lot but somewhere I get held all time and I got confused so thought that I could use help from the experts!</p>

<p>9th/10th CBSE report - 8 CGPA
11th CBSE - 62%
12th CBSE - 94% </p>

<p>I took off 2012-2013 year because I was kinda lost and had some other problems.
But I didn't back down from giving the SATs
SAT I - 2270 (800M , 750W, 720CR) [first sitting] [took after my 12th]
SAT II Physics - 800, Maths 2C - 760 [first sitting for SAT II ] [took after my 12th]</p>

<p>I don't have much ECs up my collar, god I was slacker.. well anyway some of my notable ECs are </p>

<p>Inter-School Technobuzz Winner (A Competition set up by St. Xavier School between 25 schools of the region)
Inter-House Extempore Contest Winner
Inter-School Extempore Contest Winner
Established the Photography/Photo-Editing club of School (they call me as Godfather lol)
Elected as the IT Minister of the school</p>

<p>[I have no idea if these even count or what..]
Crazy about programming
Performed in an Inter-state Musical Contest conducted by Yamaha
Tutored 6 kids computer science in Summer
Worked as a Freelance Programmer (earning enough to support myself)
Have been working on a indie-platformer game for android and iPhone (expected release date : May 2014)
Recently started a youtube channel on which I upload my song covers and other stuff (growing good, last month stats - got about 200 legit subscribers) </p>

<p>I can't remember maybe I have some more certificates like from IIO and other but I don't think I got high enough rank for them to matter~ </p>

<p>I'll be going for a major in Computer Science, moreover the one inclined towards the programming/game-design.
Now before you people go on and demotivate me I know this is probably a weak application but rather than that it would be better if you do this poor soul a help in a way you can :3</p>

<p>It would be a great help if you people could recommend me some good universities or chance me for my preferences. </p>

<p>MIT, Harvard, Stanford,<pour in="" some="" more="" ivy="" league="" equivalent=""> - I don't have chance in these
Caltech - I know it needs to be with the ones above but god I love this University (My dream school)
UCB, UCLA, SDSU, UCI, Calpoly - I can probably get in one of these schools</pour></p>

<p>If anyone can suggest and chance a great school near Los Angeles (few relatives live there)</p>

<p>Harvey Mudd college, a small liberal arts college which is known for it’s comp sci/engineering programs is very close to LA. You could apply there but it’s very difficult to get into. Also, USC is in LA, and so is Loyola Marymount college, both of which you have a great shot at.</p>

Also I am sorry for adding that one stupid line in the original post I am open to your harsh/good comments about me as an applicant.</p>

<p>I think you probably have good chances at UCLA, USC and CalPoly you might even have chance, though slim, at some Ivy league ~ need confirmation, your application looks similar to mine which will be next year but still less EC and GPA :P</p>

<p>MIT,…- high reach as you know urself
Caltech- It’s very much a high reach cuz of ur grades in 9,10,11. 12th marks are awesome though. It really depends on how they view your grades in 9-11th class.
UCLA-USC and CalPoly: match-low reach :slight_smile:
Why don’t you look at grinnell?</p>

I am applying the art supplement from the demo of my game, do you think it would help in overall consideration ?
Also like do I have chances at some Ivy or prestigious universities ? [though I am applying to em, I know I shouldn’t hold much hopes but still you know how those univ. are BIG thing in India]</p>

<p>Your EC’s are good, but nothing extraordinary that will make you stand out or cement your place at an ivy league institution. Your chances at the ivy’s and other super selective universities are pretty slim.</p>

<p>I’ve seen some list and researched a bit and to be honest I am good if I get in UCLA (though I’ll need loan :C but… okay )
Also slim chances doesn’t mean like 0% right :3</p>

<p>You are a strong candidate with good sat 1 and subject scores. ECs are not that bad as you are thinking. Just apply to broader range of colleges. You are all set to get admitted in many schools. Early app,citation will help.</p>
