Help! Sophomore stressing over college!

So far I have done average in school these past 1.5 years of high school. I took honors classes and got a few Bs which I'm mad about. I want to get straight As the rest of high school and I am working hard to achieve that. I don't do many EC either :/ Just student council, DECA and gymnastics. Next year I am joining Debate as well as getting a job/volunteering because I have to quit gymnastics. I have been studying for the ACT/SAT also. Do I still have a shot at a good university? What can I do to improve my chances? What should I do this summer- work, volunteer or go to a program? Please help I am so stressed.

You’re only a sophomore, you have time to redeem yourself. Just be sure to work hard this semester and your junir year. If you don’t have a 4.0, it’s not the end of the world

You are doing fine. Try to take SAT IIs when you are finished with corresponding course, like biology and literature. If you are aiming for top schools, you probably should have 3 SAT IIs, one humanities (literature, history), one science and one math.

You don’t need to take both ACT and SAT, just one should be sufficient.

As far as summer activities, the junior summer is the most important one. If you can, look into a competitive program, especially if it is a paid program. Does your state have a Governor’s school? If not, then a program related to your interest - sports, art, music…would show your commitment.

Try not to get too stressed out, enjoy high school. You will be fine.
