Help, student who got kick out of college looking to restart education

Hi I was an freshman engineering student at UIUC (originally from CA) and due continuing my habits from highschool (procrastination, not taking classes seriously) and unsatisfactory performance, I was kick out of the school.

I am supposedly eligible for entry if i take some classes at local cc and obtain good grades however that does not apply to my scholarship. Therefore I am looking to transferring to a UC with intending major of computer science. I am currently enrolled in a local cc and taking the courses from assist.org.

However, recently, i have heard from a friend something about retaking classes that I got less than a 'C' in (which i have alot obviously since I failed most of my classes first year back in UIUC), which is fine but I have 2 questions regarding this:

What if some of the classes that I received NP (no pass) in is not offered anywhere in community college? (math applications of relativity, intro to japanese culture)

CCs dont give C- but I did received a C- for Linear Algebra from UIUC, and since C- is less than a C do I retake this course?

Thank you for whatever help you can provide

The UC rules say

As for the classes for which there is no equivalent, my guess is you’ll just have to live with that. But since you won’t need those specific classes in order to satisfy IGETC or other requirements for xfer admission, my guess is it doesn’t matter.

I suggest that you schedule a meeting with one of the xfer counselors at your school who should be well versed in what you need to do to xfer to a UC campus. In particular, look into the TAG programs which will guarantee admission at your choice of 7 UC campuses.

The NP does not affect your GPA, so it’s not a big deal if you don’t repeat it. C- is not passing if the grade point is less than 2.0, so you will need to repeat that.

I’m afraid MikeMac was incorrect, when he directed you toward TAG program. TAG is not an option for you, as you have already attended a 4 year University.

The UC system allow students to take part in TAG even if they have previously attended a 4-year college. There are limitations on the number of units you may have, and the specific rules are different by UC campus (ie. some do not allow it). You can see the matrix at <a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors; in the section Who Can File a TAG?
