Does anyone have a problem with visual distractions, more specifically while reading? Recently I've developed a tendency to get distracted from page numbers, indentations, freckles on my arms/hands, and even my nose (all while reading a book, for example).... I was very stressed with the deadlines and feared that I couldn't finish my assignments.

Is this something that prompts professional intervention or is it something that we all experience from time to time?

Put the book or whatever right in front of your face and savor each word…concentrate hard on the context of the page…zero in on your visual senses…comprehend the information…

Okay, so do you guys just try to ignore everything around you (page numbers, the crease in the middle of the book, surrounding clutter) when you read?

Like…what about the SATs and the index numbers on the side of the passages?? How do you guys concentrate and focus on the task at hand??

edit: if it should happen to be so, maybe you should try a more professional prognosis? I’m sure drugs could be prescribed that would increase your attentiveness…

Yeah I was thinking about that too… but how are those different from regular students. I’m more a of a perfectionist type of person who tries to do everything right. I don’t have to look at the environment around me… I’m just aware that they are there, that’s all. Is that normal?

Hmmm. I don’t really know, but I do know that I’ve never been distracted by the things you mentioned… although I’m a really fast reader. Maybe if I read slower, I’d have more of a chance to get distracted lol.

I’m also a bit of a perfectionist, hence my username, but the items you mentioned don’t really bother me. Try reading a bit faster and just concentrate on the words.

I actually tried to make “binoculars” out of paper towel cardboard cynlinders so I can see only words but I figured that would be funny if I wore it at the SAT testing center =p
