Help, Too many distractions...

Does anyone have a problem with visual distractions, more specifically while reading? Recently I've developed a tendency to get distracted from page numbers, indentations, freckles on my arms/hands, and even my nose (all while reading a book, for example).... I was very stressed with the deadlines and feared that I couldn't finish my assignments.

Is this something that prompts professional intervention or is it something that we all experience from time to time?

It is kind of strange to be distracted by freckles...

You get distracted from your nose and freckles? LOL Like you're focusing on your nose and you become distracted?

^ Lol and then go cross-eyed looking at your nose... awkward.

No.. I have a big nose so I can "see it" when I'm reading. Basically anything in my visual line of field can be a distraction...

Put the book or whatever right in front of your face and savor each word...concentrate hard on the context of the page...zero in on your visual senses...comprehend the information...

^in essence, just read the work diligently, and don't get distracted! :p

Haha, I'm trying to release my inner zen.

Okay, so do you guys just try to ignore everything around you (page numbers, the crease in the middle of the book, surrounding clutter) when you read?

Like...what about the SATs and the index numbers on the side of the passages?? How do you guys concentrate and focus on the task at hand??

Just think, "I am so excited to be reading about "__________." I am so pumped!

Ya gotta get yourself ready for the enthralling adventure throughout whatever you're reading/solving.

Pay no attention to the index numbers. DON'T EVEN LOOK AT THEM.

Maybe you should get some glasses, haha. Concentration glasses.

Erm, I don't mean to offend, but could it be possible that you have ADHD (or something similar?)

You might have predominantly inattentive type ADHD?

ADHD - Symptoms of ADHD
Do you fit 6+ of those symptoms? It's just that I've never quite had any of the problems that you're describing; maybe my jump to this is premature... :/

edit: if it should happen to be so, maybe you should try a more professional prognosis? I'm sure drugs could be prescribed that would increase your attentiveness...

^ I was thinking that as well.

Yeah I was thinking about that too... but how are those different from regular students. I'm more a of a perfectionist type of person who tries to do everything right. I don't have to look at the environment around me... I'm just aware that they are there, that's all. Is that normal?

Hmmm. I don't really know, but I do know that I've never been distracted by the things you mentioned... although I'm a really fast reader. Maybe if I read slower, I'd have more of a chance to get distracted lol.

I'm also a bit of a perfectionist, hence my username, but the items you mentioned don't really bother me. Try reading a bit faster and just concentrate on the words.

Maybe you should squint really hard so that you can only see one word at a time.

I actually tried to make "binoculars" out of paper towel cardboard cynlinders so I can see only words but I figured that would be funny if I wore it at the SAT testing center =p

Maybe there are glasses you could purchase that perform the same job????

Hahahahaha
