So I realized I have to drop my Physics class with a "W". I'm not doing well in that class and I'll definitely get an "F" in the class if I don't drop. I've already found a 1 unit general education class at another college (late start). I don't have to worry about 60 units because of that 1 unit class. However, since I dropped physics, I won't complete my physical science/lab requirements for IGETC. Will I get rescinded? The UCLA rep looked at my file and told me to drop this class and find a 1 unit class (which I did) and to notify them. I'm accepted to the college of letters and science. Help?

u dont have a physical science class on ur transcript?

No, I haven’t completed a physical science class. I’m not a science major. I’ve completed everything else except the lab/physical science requirements for IGETC. I will have a “W” for my physics class on my transcript.

the answer is you will get rescinded if your are transfering with igetc

Yes…you will get rescinded…UCs (not just ucla) are pretty strict on the 60 units completion and igetc completion. Good luck and study hard to see if you can pass the class.

You don’t have any kind of class under physical science section of IGETC, or you just don’t have on with a lab?

If you want to get the right answer just multiply by 0 and add the right answer…hahahah.

Thats what my math teacher says.

Do that and you should be good!

@LAforlife: I don’t have any class that qualifies for the physical science requirement for IGETC. Same for lab. I’m basically missing one physical science class that has a lab. I can get partially certified if I’m not mistaken. I’ve read that as long as it’s not english or math, I’m good.

Read that where, Yahoo! Answers?

@bayarea9

Well, it’s true that at an absolute minimum, you must have your English and Math courses done to transfer. But you will not complete IGETC without the other courses that you’re missing. If you indicated that you will complete IGETC by spring on your UC app, you are in some seriously hot water. They might still admit you, but I’d say it’s more unlikely than they will not.

Would using summer session to complete my last class for IGETC help?

@bayarea9

Technically no, UCs officially do not allow students to use the summer before transfer to complete IGETC or any other admissions requirements. However, perhaps UCLA will make an exception in your case if you ask. The sooner you talk to them about your situation, the sooner you can get down to business and reach a resolution.

I am planning to go to UCI for Fall 2012. I was going to withdraw from calc 3, but my counselor said my offer of admissions would be rescinded since it would mean a breach in contract (the one saying you must pass all classes, etc). However, he later told me that I could retake the class during summer if I failed/dropped the class this semester.

Best bet would be to talk to your counselor about summer, as they might take the class you need.

In case you’re wondering this class, calc 3, is required for my major (ChE).

Good luck

Dropping required courses will likely result in acceptance revocation, but not always. Most UCs, including UCLA, have opted to not make revocation decisions until after transcript evaluation, so you will be in limbo much longer (until after July 15, maybe early August).
