I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, but either I fail at Google searching or there's just too much information out there to get a clear answer. My question is, Can I write about a singular summer experience for the activity essay on the Common App?

I have another question. Can I write about technically separate ECs that fall under a general category? For example, what if I'm a huge animal lover and I want to write my EC essay tying all together the frequent volunteering I do at the animal shelter, the summer I interned for a vet, and the multiple charities I've started to raise money for the local humane society? Does this work?

I am sorry that no one has answered your question. I’ll do my best:

I think the purpose of it is to explain in depth ONE activity that you may have listed under the “activity” section. It’s if you feel one activity really stands out and you want to explain it further.

If you list all of those animal-loving activities in the activity section, I think it is clear that you are an animal lover and you don’t need to specify that in the 1000-character essay.
