Thanks austinmtmom…I asked those two question very very early on in this process when I was brand new to CC, thinking all questions were ok. I found you all in June and was so excited to have people to bounce questions off of that I guess I was overzealous. Thank goodness I didn’t ask the staple question… I may have been drawn and quartered. :)

My D has now been through her first on campus audition (I know each one will do things differently) but she shook hands with the auditors and handed her head shots and resumes to the auditors as well. <3

I asked SO MANY questions when I first joined. And I have had a few “disagreements” over some of my questions and some of my answers. But here I am, FIVE years later, still hanging around. The positive here far outweighs the negative. I’m so looking forward to all the celebrating that this group will be doing in a few months!

I thought that would be the case too but they initiated the hand shaking which I thought was surprising. The head of the department shook her hand but the other auditor didn’t.

I think handshaking should be avoided by the kids auditioning, if at all possible. Too many germs flying around and it’s too easy to get sick at this time of year. Not something you want to happen in the midst of audition season.

I had forgotten about the germ thing, but when my son auditioned for the college he now attends, it was December and he was still recovering from the flu (day 4) and was so worried about that…Then at the very beginning of the info session, the department chair made a joke about “virtual handshakes” (or something like that) and made it clear that it was nothing personal, they just needed not to swap germs!

Re: Unified walk-in money, at my Unifieds (L.A.) almost every school I did walk-ins for last year required checks. She should definitely bring some.

Re: on the spot acceptances: one of my daughter’s friends was told “Welcome to Fordham” after her audition in Chicago. Not a promise per se, but she’s there now, doing very well.

Great story glass harmonica. Boy would that have been nice! The worst part of this is not the auditions; it’s that awful period when the exciting travel is complete and the answers are weeks away…

I talked to a young guy last year at Unifieds in Chicago who was told there was a place at Emerson if he wanted it. The auditor sought him ought. I saw it happen–in the lobby of the Palmer. Yep. And as for hand-shaking, I don’t know. But one of the department heads (male) in Chicago gave my D a hug after her audition. Now that’s different!

Not to scare anyone who will be auditioning for CalArts, but a few of my classmates - especially the ones who auditioned in previous years - were told right then and there that they had gotten in.

Milkshakespeare, are you saying you know one or more people who auditioned repeatedly for CalArts…and that they were remembered by the auditors, who told them the last time around that they had “made it”?

On the other side of that, just keep in mind that sometimes you hear something that sounds like an acceptance will be coming your way, only to find out it isn’t. I know someone who was told at the end of her audition that it was the program’s policy not to notify anyone until after all the auditions were done, even though sometimes they wanted to jump across the table and make an offer on the spot. She was rejected from that program.

Back to the point of this thread…any questions or concerns anyone has about Unifieds can be asked here. Thanks to all who have had actual experience with Unifieds and can give their valuable insight to those of us going through this for the first time.
Please don’t be afraid to ask questions. We are a great group of caring parents and students who want everyone to have a successful audition season. <3
