You can get admitted relatively easily with lower stats than what I am going to tell you, but if you want good chances, go by these numbers (based from my experience).

How many AP’s?
Depends on the school. Take as many as you can as your school offered. I was admitted this year as the class of '15. I will graduate with 5 AP’s completed, so you do not have to go overboard (my school offers maybe 11-12 AP’s? Not sure, could be more). What is important is taking honors classes of the core subjects.

SAT/ACT score?
You need to check [this page](Freshman - How To Apply - University of Florida). Try for a 1900+ SAT or 28+ ACT. For very likely chances try to break a 2000 or a 30. I submitted a 2050 SAT (superscored), a 31 ACT, and a 700 Chem SAT II. Obviously a lower score can get admitted with some ease as long as other academic areas are fine.

GPA?
Recalculate your GPA the UF way (I am not sure how to do it. I think it is 5 for an honors and 6 for AP) and shoot for at least a 4.0. Mine was/is a 4.4.

Class Rank?
Top 10% is ideal but worse is fine. When I applied I was the top 3% (13/around 520)

extracurriculars?
Get involved in in a few key clubs or sports that you really like. Employment is good too. Mostly you need to shoot for leadership positions in clubs such as captain/president. For UF it is not major to have spectacular EC’s, but try to at least get involved as EC’s can help a lot. I have two officer positions in my clubs, one of them being president. I have robotics team, swim team (not for all four years), academic team, Math Honor Society, National Honor Society.

community hours?
Try to get at least 50 hours doing something. If you want Bright Futures, you will do this anyway. I have about 150.

Please excuse my bad grammar. I hope this helps!

UF GPA is actually all your core classes and foreign language classes up until Senior Year. It’s on a 5.0 scale. Just add .5 for Honors and 1.0 for AP/IB/DE to your unweighted points.

^ I agree with Engineerjw. I think it varies , for example in my case:

AP: I took a total of 10 AP classes throughout my years of highschool. I took one as a Freshman and Sophmore (because that was all that you could take), and 4 as a Junior and I am currently taking 4 as a Senior. But then again, my school is a small school and so the amount of AP classes we have are limited. We have only (I believe) 13 AP courses that are offered anyway. Most of my classes were either AP, Honors, or Duel Enrolled (2 of which where). So I think you should take as many that is offered.

SAT/ACT: Mine were average 1160 (M&R) 1800 (M,R,W)/22. So I’m not so sure about this.

GPA: I’m not sure, but above a 3.5. Mine is a 4.33

Class Rank: at least in the Top 15% if your not in the Top 10%. I’m in top 10%

Extracurriculars: Be as involved as you can. Again, my school was small so the amount of EC’s we had were limited, but I joined as much as I was able (like Volunteer groups, Key clubs, Student government, and NHS) and helped out at sporting events; because I didn’t want to join an athletic.

Community Hours: Try to shoot for a 100. I had a little over 75 hours.

I was also admitted this year and I know others in my school who were admitted with being in the top 2 percent with good SAT/ACT scores but didn’t have much EC’s, but there were also those who averaged on the SAT/ACT scores and were in the top 15% of the class but had lots of EC’s. Thats why I think it depends. Also work hard on the essay portion on the Application, I think that helps a lot.

This is what an admission person told us when we toured UF; You can have high grades and great ACT/SAT scores but a bad essay and be rejected. Be detailed when it comes to describing your EC’s. For example, if you were in NHS don’t just tell them you were in NHS, tell them what your role was (were you Pres, VP, in charge of taking pictures) and what sort of projects you guys did and your role in those.

I may be wrong, but this is in my case. Good luck!

I think having a strong senior year schedule is important. Load up with as many AP classes as you can and still pull down As and Bs to keep your GPA up.

WOW, thank you so much for everyone taking time to help me with this! I think i can definitely go by everything you guys have said, thank you sooo much :]

Also, I’m not sure what grade you’re in, but your Junior year is THE most important! Not to say that the other three aren’t important, but they really want to see that you have a tough Junior schedule, and still have good grades. I had mostly academics my Junior year and made straight A’s, and while it was hard, it was worth it.

And like everyone else said, take as many AP’s as you can. I only had 1 in 9th grade, 1 in 10th grade, 2 in 11th grade, but I have 5 this year. Elective AP’s, like AP Psych and AP Environmental Science look good on a transcript also.

Good luck! (:

Really, don’t worry about stacking up on AP classes your senior year. Just because it is AP, don’t take it if you are not interested in taking it. Since i have seen your stats already, you are a decent candidate. What you need to worry about is SAT! If you have 3-5 AP classes total then there should be nothing holding you back except for your SAT/ACT scores.

But as someone already mentioned. your junior year is very important; it is the last academic year they calculate into your GPA. Senior year, not as important, just make sure you have a moderately challenging course schedule. I definitely advise though, since most people- such as myself- begin to relax towards the middle of their senior year, to take the AP courses that you really have motivation to take.

Thank you so much to all of you. You have really been helping a lot! :]
