Hey guys Indian student here, please HELP!

Hey! guys I am an Indian student recently graduted from high school in India (in 2018). I want to apply in Canadian Universities for my undergraduate studies but I don’t know If I can get in. My 11th class score was bad so I’m afraid I will not make the cut. Please suggest me what should I do. Here are my scores:-

9th class:- Overall average A+(cbse).
10th class;- 10 cgpa(overall A+)(cbse).
11th Class:- 75% (cbse)
12th Class:- 91.6%(cbse) and 92.4% in best of 4.
Giving IELTS next month but expecting 7 to 7.5.

Here it is.I’m looking to apply in top Canadian Universities for Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
The universities that I have in my Mind are University of Alberta, Univeristy Of Waterloo, Mcgill, UBC, University of Toronto, Mcmasters Univeristy. Am I dreaming or it can happen. And I’m not that rich so I’ll probably need some Financial Help from College. I will have to find work there to pay of my bills.

Thank You.

Toronto/McGill/UBC might be kind of hard, considering that they prefer to look at eleventh grade scores over 9th and 10th grade. You have a chance at the others. Also, are you taking a gap year this year? That could affect your chances as well, depending on what you do.

Google Bill Anderson international admissions Waterloo. Dr. Anderson is the admissions director for Waterloo engineering and he keeps a blog which is full of useful info. Waterloo is the most difficult engineering program to get into (along with U of T and McGill).

SAT or ACT scores would help. You need calculus.

Canadian universities give very little financial aid. Bills must be paid upfront.

“I’ll probably need some Financial Help”

How much can you afford?

The universities that you have named are very good. However, they are more expensive for international students compared to some other very good Canadian universities. As @bouders has said, financial aid is relatively rare at Canadian universities.

Also, how do your grades in grade 11 compare with others in your school? Given that you have listed your grades from grade 12, are you currently taking a gap year?

The maximum My parents can afford is 18000cad per year.

“How do your grades in Grade 11 compare with others?”
I will say they are good. 33% is the pass percentage.

About gap year, yes I’m taking a gap year because I’m currently preparing to take the JEE next year which is All India level Entrance exam for Engineering Programs (trust me Tougher than anything).

One of the cheapest universities in Canada is Memorial University in Newfoundland. Tuition is $11400 for international students. Room and board, health insurance and fees would be another $11000.

I think that the biggest issue here is financing.

“The universities that I have in my Mind are University of Alberta, University Of Waterloo, Mcgill, UBC, University of Toronto, Mcmasters University”

These are all very good universities. However, getting any of them down to C$20,000 for an international student seems very unlikely to me.

Memorial University of Newfoundland does offer some merit scholarships for international students. Whether you can get it down to C$18,000 seems at best a bit iffy. However, I think that there is a good chance you could get the price down relatively close to this number. Be sure to budget for some small price increases over the years, good winter gear (boots, coat, mittens, …), and a laptop and books and travel.

University is probably going to be less expensive in India.

Thank you for replying! I will take a study loan to fund my tuition and partially through my own pocket. The thing is Univeristy of Alberta website gives approximate of C$28800 each year, so I thought maybe I could get some relaxation from various scholarships that are mentioned on their website. I will also work there to take some load off my parents.

Also I wanna make some changes because I didn’t do the conversions correct. What I meant by C$18-19000 was that it is the maximum money my parents can shell out upfront from their pocket each year. I will take a loan If I have to because my mum is an employee at a bank.

The question is can I get admission in these colleges and some scholarship based upon my academic profile.

I can’t afford the fee as it is according to their website. I’m not super rich or anything. :((
