Some of my not so smart classmates are trying to take AP Bio as a sophmore. They don’t know what’s coming.

I’m like
at some of you
I’m only taking AP World next year (the only one I’m eligible for)

Me too! I could have taken an AP lab science, but since they’re 2 periods long, I would have had to push PE 2 to junior year, and I really didn’t want to do that.
So I’ll just be taking WHAP.

@Highschooler2016 Dood I know what you mean. I know some super tryhard kids who are taking like 5 APs next year, and they think they’ve totally got it under control. I’m only taking AP Comp Gov and AP Stat.

@Swinter Exactly, they say they know its going to be hard but do they know their social life is going to be almost non existent. Some seniors are only taking 3 AP’S.

Hey, 16ers! How is everyone?

Do you guys think I could handle AP Bio as a sophomore, with an A in Honors Bio? My school has a chemistry prerequisite, so I’d have to make special arrangements. But I’d be enrolled in Honors Chemistry at the same time, and I could learn the chemistry chapters over the summer.

@enotramsolleh Hey, welcome to the thread!
I think it all comes down to what you know you’re capable of. If you know you can handle it, then go for it. I know three other sophomores taking AP bio right now. Personally, I plan to never take bio again in high school but that’s just me.

How do you guys feel about AP Economics? Is it a hard or easy class?

i’m taking AP Bio next year! Don’t hate :D

i might also enroll in AP Chemistry depending on schedule. And AP Calc if I can skip pre-calc.

Do you guys do any volunteer work? I think I need to expand my volunteer work. I only volunteer for 4 hours each week.

Thanks, Swinter! Are they doing well?

@TheGreatCatsbyx I think 4 hours is fine. You’d have ~200 a year. It’s better than me anyway; I don’t volunteer regularly (as in a set day). It’s usually more “all at once.” I did 12 hours one day, but not much since that.

It depends on the level of your Honors bio class. At my school there is an easy bio class and a difficult bio class because the teachers are different. A lot of the kids in the easy bio class are making the mistake of taking AP Bio next year because they think they can handle it based on what they did in a very easy class.

Do any of you have really stellar ecs? I feel like mine’s are terrible; there’s not one place where I excel at, and I want to blame my parents (who are Asian) for not pushing me to put more effort into them. I read the bios of the finalists of this year’s Siemens competition, and they are all like “national piano champion…Computing Olympiad finalist…national sport title holder…etc.”

@IvyLeague2020 I’ve heard econ is one of the easier APs, so I’m sure you could handle it. Like I said, it all comes down to what you know you’re capable of. Talk to the teacher who teaches the class and get some insight.

@TheGreatCatsbyx Lol my volunteer stuff is soo bad. It’s basically just two hours a week at the library. I’m looking for some more substantial stuff, but most of it is only available to high schoolers ages 16+.

@enotramsolleh Haha no prob. And yeah, they’re doing pretty decently. It’s a difficult class, like most science APs, and you’ll have to bust your butt and stay on the ball if you want to keep an A.

@EveningSwan DOOD ME TOO. I have the worst ECs ever. The only thing I do is debate. I’m Asian and I don’t even play the piano! The horror!

Anyone in the class of '17?

^There’s a thread for that.

[High School Class of 2017](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/1455552-high-school-class-2017-a.html)

Hey Swinter, remember me?

Long time no see! (Lots of no-CC for me, H.W and Debate are killing me[Won Regional, going to States]) and my Robotics team meets 15~20 hours a week now.

Anyway, I’m taking 4 AP Classes/ 7 AP’s next year:
AP CAlculus BC/AB
AP Physics C (Electricity and Magnetism)
AP Macroeconomics/AP Microeconomics
AP US Government

P.S I know it’s a lot (Homework is my main killer), but sidenote time: I heard an Asian in the hallway say, “Maybe 5 AP’s is too much. Should I cut it back?”. I then loudly exclaimed, “I FEEL A DISTURBANCE IN THE FORCE!”. Yeah…

Hey Apollo!
Congratulations on debate! I seriously suck so badly, you have no idea. I love to watch other people debate though. Are you LD or policy, I forgot. Looks like you’ve got a tough year ahead of you. I don’t have nearly enough discipline to do what you do, I admire you for that.

lol, Asians. I’m probs the whitest Asian you’ll ever meet, in terms of personality. I am, however, #5 in a class of 779.
(but then again so are a few other people lol)

@EveningSwan My ECs aren’t that good either. I’m in these clubs:

Student Council (we do like 2 hours a month)

FBLA (like 1 hour a month; only made it to states and don’t feel like studying…but I intend to study very hard in 10th and 11th grade)

Gay-Straight ALliance (1 hour a week…best in terms of that)

Wow I’m just realizing I only have 3. I may do track, though. I missed all the sign-ups for clubs somehow…

@Swinter Dude, 5 out of 779 is beast. My school doesn’t rank (normally; it does deciles), but I am guessing that I’m about 15-20 out of ~300. Doesn’t really matter though, because that’d be 1st decile.

Lol i love when freshman complain about classes… I’m a junior, you freshman aint seen nothing yet!! :p

@enotramsolleh Haha, thanks. Like I said, though, I’m not the only one ranked #5 since there are a couple other people with straight A’s and four weighted classes. It should thin out by junior year, though. I would be happy to be in the top 5%. And nice job with your rank! :)
