High school class of 2016

@Swinter Haha, white Asians. That’s what I am too. :)

Geez, how are you guys able to take so many APs? Especially how are some of you able to already take AP calc? I’m in advanced pre-calc right now, and I still have to take analysis (a class between pre-calc and calculus). So I can’t take AP calc until junior year, and most kids at my school can’t take it until senior year.

^Dude, I know! At my school basically the only AP classes it’s possible for a sophomore to take would be bio, human geo, comp gov, stats, and calculus. Next year I’m taking a class called brief calculus, which is pretty much pre-calc and calc AB.

I’m still stuck trying to find more ECs that I don’t mind doing. I’m really interested in doing something independtly on my own time, like teaching myself how to do something. Any ideas?

@enotramsolleh

At least you have more than one EC. I’m only doing Science Olympiad now. I was supposed to do volunteer work at a museum, but it fell through. Next year I plan on trying out a lot of clubs at school, and just sticking with the ones I like. I might try to start a GSA at my school too. I’m only hesitant because of the possibility of bullying. My school is pretty conservative.

Does anyone have a job? I applied to a couple places, but most companies seem to want at least 16 year olds.

Start up some clubs, and before that, look at all the other possible clubs that interest you. I wouldn’t join a bunch of EC’s if you have no desire in it.

Anyone else coming up to a vacation soon? Our state has a weird vacation in February instead of March… so we technically don’t have spring break.

Oh, by the way, the only AP’s offered to Freshmen/sophomores is basically Spanish or French (If you’re a heritage speaker)…

@rykun97

Oh my gosh, I’m basically the same. I only have science olympiad and I’m trying to volunteer at the hospital. Only I have orchestra as well.

Is anyone in HOSA? I really want to start one at my school since we don’t have one currently. It looks like so much fun!

@Swinter Ah, okay. And thanks! I just found out today that my class is actually 320 so if I am 20 I am about top 7%. I’m hoping that when APs come around, I’ll break through or they’ll fall back. I’m sure you’ll stay ranked highly, though.

@rykun97 lol. I don’t have a job, but plan to get one this summer. Did you try McDonalds? How many places did you apply? I know I would want a smart 15-year-old as opposed to a dumb 15±year-old.

My school only offers AP World History for sophomores, and just started this year. So I’m lucky. The only exception is if you make arrangements (which is rare) or if you take Algebra 1 in 6th grade (which is Calc as a sophomore).

My school has HOSA but I didn’t get in it this year.

Class of 2016!

Hey guys, I’m gonna ask for some of your advice and insight here. So I know I said that I was taking AP Stats next year, but now I’m not so sure. This class would start at 6:30 am. Plus I will be taking calc bc junior year and there’s not much after that. Should I just leave stats for senior year?

I was just wondering, (this is a sort of controversial, touchy subject) do any of y’all have problems with racism in your school?

@Swinter Hmm…so it’s an extra course? I’m not really sure. If you don’t think it will hurt your grades, and there isn’t a transportation issue, then I don’t see why not?

@Highschooler2016 Nope. Everyone gets along with the 1% Black, 3% Asian, and 2% Hispanic. Lol.

@enotramsolleh yeah, the only thing that got me was that it starts at 6:30 am. :confused: Oh well, I guess it doesn’t really matter because there isn’t a transportation issue and I should be preparing myself for junior year anyway.

@Highschooler2016 nope not really, there is blend of different races but then you have the stereotypical groups sucks as the ghetto black people, really smart and lack social skills Asians and the snobby white people.everyone pretty much is nice to one another

Hey guys!

And nah not for me everyone loves each other in my school!

That’s interesting we have A LOT of stereotypical groups like the ghetto blacks, the Latinos who stick together and only speak Spanish, and the cliquey Whites. Other than that, most people get along but people say A LOT of racist jokes.

Hey Chrisplak! :slight_smile:

@Swinter 6:30’s pretty tough. That’s when my bus comes. But, you’re right, it will be preparation. That’s how I was thinking of it too. Instead of going from 1 AP to ~4 like the smart kids at my school, I’ll go from to 2 to ~4 (and be more used to the difficulty). Heck, I think my sophomore year might be tougher than my junior year.

Ha, I normally wake up for school at 6:30. I guess I’m trying to get used to APs in general because I’m basically just taking the easy APs next year but it’s better than nothing. I have no doubt that junior year will be hell, though.

We’re majority black (well 49% according to the county) with me being part of that majority. The groups mix well, though they may seem “extremely black” to some onlookers, that’s because it’s a black majority school.

Also. Went to Science Olynpiad today (Division B)
We placed 5th, but only the top 4 get to go to state, unless the directors do wildcards again. (which helped us get to state last year)

Everyone’s pretty accepting of races at my school. We’re one big, happy family. Sort of. Except when it comes to politics, but that’s a different story.

@TheAtlantic How’d you do individually? My school dropped out of the regional competition, cause of poor leadership, communication, and everything that could go wrong went wrong.:(
