High school.
I feel like I don’t have the heart to teach Special Ed.
I’ve helped kids with special ed before, it’s too saddening.

And I just don’t have the patience to deal with little kids… :D

All I know is USC is the only school for me. Their school of cinematic arts is so awesome!

I think UCLA or Stanford or Harvard lol boy am I gonna have to work for it though hahaha

TheAtlantic- ohh nice!
ofmunstersandmen and Helaaa- thats cool; good luck!

What has been your weakest subject when taking PSAT or SAT practice tests?
Mine is CR for PSAT because I haven’t really taken the SAT practice tests because I don’t feel like sitting for 4 hours and I don’t feel like I’m ready for the Essay. Particularly long passages I don’t have a problem reading I love to actually but sometimes if my minds not I. It i can read a page and not have comprehended a word. I also don’t feel like reading the whole passage and skip to the questions or skip around I. The passage. I have mild ADD or at least my (doctor) father thought so. When I was younger I took pills for it, but I don’t anymore. I didn’t really like them anyway so maybe I don’t have it.

My best is math which is also my best in school.

Definitely CR, there are some questions I feel I got right, but actually got wrong, and I never seem to understand the logic behind those.

Strongest is writing and math. Even though I feel I’m better at math, sometimes I get better scores in writing because of the massive downcurve in the math section.

@helaaa - Same boat as you, Harvard/Stanford. (:

Weakest is Math, definitely. (woes when almost everybody you know have math as their best) Critical reading and Writing is pretty easy for me.

My weakest is definitely reading. Same with 55al00m and catchinginfinity, I just don’t understand why my answers are wrong. I’ve never really enjoyed reading books anyway, but I feel like I should read a lot more to get higher scores haha
I took the practice test five times, and my math score was really high the first time I took it. But then later, it decreased all the time and I just can’t get it back to my first score. I took a four week SAT prep class and my writing increased by quite a lot, and it’s my second best score.
Im just really worried about my reading score though… The college that I want to go to doesnt look at the writing score and my writing score boosts my score by a lot. :(

I love to read, but I guess the literature isn’t boring or heavy enough in vocabulary. I don’t really read academic journals or newspapers so I guess I should start. Pretty much just pleasure reads occasional they are classics, but mostly
Fantasy or horror.

^I also went to a prep place, and the way we would learn vocabulary was memorize huge lists of 70 - 100 words per night, then get quizzed on 20 the next day. It wasn’t effective at first, but then your brain got used to “soaking in” all the words. I don’t think anyone here would actually venture out and learn that many words on their own, but just some perspective into what helped me with the vocab section of CR.

By the way, do any of you have any effective study tips (for school, not SATs)? I’m going back to school in less than two weeks and want to get on board with all that stuff, since last year I barely put in effort and breezed through the year. Sophomore year will probably be harder.

Did your list of 70-100 words include some words that you’ve known before? At my prep class, I had to memorize 250 words a day LOL (but around 25 were ones that I’ve known already and the list sort of began to repeat after a while). Memorizing these was really effective too, but there are still a lot more words that are brand new to me when I take the practice tests. :(

It’s funny how your school starts in less than two weeks, since a lot of schools have started already lol Mine didn’t start yet though haha Do you live in the east coast?

I think it depends on the classes you’re taking. How many honors classes are you taking and is your school pretty competitve? It’s always good to study ahead (Im taking algebra 2 next year and I reviewed algebra 1 and studied from an algebra 2 textbook this summer). You could also ask upperclassmen or go on ratemyteacher.com and see what your teachers are like. It’ll allow you to prepare yourself ahead of time and know what to expect; your first month of sophomore year won’t be as overwhelming. Some other tips are to not procrastinate, have good time management, and go to teachers for extra help.

@imhkim - Yep, I live in the East coast; you? The vocab lists they gave us were pretty rough for the most part, I only knew 5 or 6 words on average. ):

I’m actually more worried for the beginning of the year, hahah, just because I’m not familiar with the teacher’s testing and grading style yet. By the end of the year, I know how much effort they expect to be put into certain assignments.

I had a really bad freshmen year, my GPA is down to a 3.0, and I’m regularly a straight a student. Here’s to sophomore year! Good luck to everyone.

^^^ good luck. What’s everyone else’s GPA after freshman year?. I have a 4.0, but it’s not like my school is very challenging. It’s a rural public school with 2 APs. I mean I had 3 honors (English, math, science that’s all That’s offered) and French 2 (which is above most people in my grade) and a bunch of grad requirements to get out of the way, but I’m sure it was much easier than everyone else so it’s not that big of an achievement.

@catchinginfinity- I live in the East Coast too; specifically in New Jersey! Oh, it says that you’re from NY! haha nice pretty close to where I am
Same here too; that explains why my first quarter grades are always the lowest…
@teachmehowto1029- aww I’m sorry to hear that
Thanks, and good luck to you too!
@55al00m- My freshman GPA was 4.1 and I took three honors (English, Geometry, Chinese). Still, your 4.0 GPA is pretty good!

What classes are you guys taking sophomore year?
