Joining the '16 thread, wootwoot! I’m a freshman (well, obviously). I’d like to one day study Arabic at…well, I don’t know what university XD My dream school is the American University of Cairo. I’ve heard good things about Stanford’s Arabic program, but I don’t think I’m Ivy material. XD

Right now I’m taking:
Mandarin Chinese II
German II
Precalculus Honors
English Lit Honors
Chemistry Honors
AP Bio
AP Art History (<3 <3)
AP US Gov
AP Psych

And self-studying AP Human Geo and AP Comparative Politics for fun Might try my hand at a photography portfolio for AP Fine Arts - I could maybe scrape a 4, haha.

Anyone considering taking the SATs^^, I recommend taking them just for experience even if you don’t plan on going to a John Hopkins program I took them in June, got a 2000, but I didn’t really care about my score…It was just for practice :)

woah, that’s a pretty good schedule. pre-calc in 9th grade? i’m taking that next year lol. my school doesn’t offer many AP classes but we have online AP courses… except we can’t take them until soph year because we have stupid PE/health/technology required electives. I might self-study for AP Psychology or AP Enviromental Sci this year, or any other easy APs so I can qualify for AP awards

Btw, are any of u guys taking SAT subject tests? Do they really matter?

my dream school would be tokyo university (or any school in japan) or my dad’s alma mater. i also really like MIT, columbia, and nyu. clearly, i have not thought well into possible safety schools considering my stats… but hey its okay to dream right now right?

by the way, have you guys ever competed in your state/national science fair? it’s super fun and rewarding :D

^^^ You’re schedule is insane! I’m only taking 1 honors class and 2 college prep classes this semester and I’m struggling to keep up with all the work. How long does it take you to do your homework?

These past couple days have been pretty good. I got 100% on my geometry quiz and 106% on my bio test plus I made the Science Olympiad team, but I’m a little stressed because on Friday I have a geo test, a bio project, and 2 English projects due. At least afterwards I’m going to the homecoming game with my friends. :D

at my school, bio is the easiest class you can take for science because they don’t have honors bio. oh, and physical science… which most freshmen take (honors and college prep)

rykun97: I’m a full-time cyber school student, so all of my work is “homework”. haha I work for maybe 6-ish hours a day.

^At my school, the easiest science class you can take is this grab bag, middle-school-like science class. The old “normal track” used to be grab bag science in 9th, Earth and Space Science in tenth, THEN Bio and Chem…I skipped right to Bio last year I’d taken enough grab bag science :D

At my school we have a mandatory class called Pathways where we are supposed to learn about computers, and we learn a lot, but ** everyone ** does their homework their.

HOLY **!@#!@#$)@$!@)$#!@$(!@$!@)#!( !!! 2000 on the SATs as a freshman and you aren’t Ivy material.

As they say in my highschool, ■■■

P.S I got an 1870 when I took a practice exam this August… Time to whip out a book! Then again I am in Algebra 2 so we have SAT math prep there. Anyway, you really are well qualified and I wish you good luck on your endeavors through the labyrinth of high school.

PPS Oh wait, you’re in Pre-Calc. Well I have just gone lower down the DERP scale.

What do you use for your cyber school? We have something similar where I live called VHS and we use it to take courses not offered at my normal high school.

I’ve been doing the SAT question of the days but I haven’t really took a real practice one yet. I’m just a freshman though so I have some time. In my school you take the PSAT in sophomore year so I’ll be taking it next year. I really want to do good so I could maybe qualify for the merit scholarship program thing.

I for one believe that taking a sample SAT test in one of College Board’s GIANT SAT BOOKS and calculating your score from that is both an accurate and affordable (ten tests fro 30 dollars) compared to your other options and is much more convenient

Apollo11: The cyber school that is my “home” school is 21st Century Cyber Charter (a smaller, Pennsylvania-only school) but I also take classes on Aventa Learning, which I believe is national.

Thank you for the edx site! IT LOOKS AWESOME! Signing up now. It looks awesome! (I must repeat that, haha, 'cause I’m super excited).

General comment: I just found an awesome college: Colorado College. I spent ten minutes excitedly describing the one-class-at-a-time plan to my family I now have two dream colleges <3

General question: And what extra-curriculars do you guys do?

^I’m so glad you are benefiting from it. I recommend the Harvard CompSci course as then you will not be behind on course work Like This Kid

My EC’s:
Student Council (2-5 hours a month)
FIRST Robotics team (1 and 1/4 hours a week)
Debate (1-3 hours a week)
Math Team (5-6 hours a week)
HOPE volunteer club that I started
Refereeing Soccer Games (5-11 hours a week)

Also check out Yale as a reach school as you have very high academics so far and a great projected SAT (or ACT) score. I live nearby so I can give out a very accurate description based upon my 6 visits if you would like.
