High school class of 2016

Gifted does nothing here nowadays, what with the budget cuts. The highest you can go math-wise is Algebra I in eighth grade. Then your parents have to step in with transportation to the high school, which is why I stayed at said course.

How many of you all are allowed AP courses freshman year? We’re not, but we have gifted/honors/PreAPs, which are weighed like APs are. I’ve been self-studying a few APs for a while… not that strictly, though, just reading the test prep books like textbooks. Sounds nerdy, but like leisure reading. Too bored at regular school, anyway.

I’m taking from over the summer because I want to get to all the math classes.

I hate gifted programs. My district has a terrible one, but that doesn’t stop ‘gifted students’ from bragging about it.

I’m not allowed any APs freshman year, either. Honors courses are weighted like AP and IB. I’d been considering self studying human geography a couple months ago, but haven’t really decided yet. I kind of always felt like self study was for kids who don’t have many options. My school offers ~25 AP courses and the IB diploma so I’m undecided.

My district’s got an awesome gifted program. Kind of cuts off your social life though. All my classes are with the same 19 kids.

Physics b is the only ap class freshman can take. Unfortunately, it’s 1.5 credits, so it’s hard to fit into most schedules. I probably wont be able to take it for that reason, but I might be able to work something out.

Same here, swinter. My school has lots of aps, so I shouldn’t need to resort to self studying, although I might do that for art history just for fun, because it sounds interesting.

In Elementary School, the gifted program is supposedly really great. When Middle School starts (which is when I got in), the program goes way downhill. In sixth grade, we did a project that would ordinarily take someone two weeks at the most, but spent about 6 months on it. This year, we’re doing independent study projects and most kids aren’t bothering (which is going to lead to embarrassment for them considering they have to present to the superintendent).

My new school does not offer any AP’s until junior year (unless you’re in accelerated math, which is basically impossible). I think I’ll end up self studying 1 for freshman year and maybe one for sophomore year as well.

@Swinter yes colleges do give credit for self-studied courses, and it is because my school doesn’t offer any APs until Junior year (except for 1 in sophmore year). I’ve also always been interested in Human Geography, but my school doesn’t offer it.

Considering this is CC, this is bound to come up in the next 4 years…
So, where do you guys aspire to go to college?

I’m trying not to get my hopes up, but I’d love to go to Penn.

I’m sure you’ll get in if you decide on it now, considering our HS careers haven’t started. Good luck!

I have absolutely no idea what college I want to get into… We’ll see. :)

I’m going to the highest ranked place that actually accepts me. I really wish I could study abroad, but that isn’t going to happen.

@AmbiD77: Do you have to try out for cheerleading and track? I don’t I’m going to have to try out for track…what after school clubs do you want to join?

I want to go to Eastman. They’ve produced many great bassoonists.

Heh, my friend plays bassoon.

[Bassoon - Uncyclopedia, the content-free encyclopedia](http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Bassoon#Marching_bassoonists)

Which type of bassoonist are you?

@Swinter ya but there isn’t much competition for track, and as for Cheerleading, I’ve been dancing and doing gymnastics for a long time, so I stand a pretty good chance. I’m not entirely sure what ECs I’ll be doing yet but so far they’re Mock trial, student senate, key club, math olympiad, French society, and Mu Alpha Theta

^Huh? I don’t really remember saying anything. The last thing I posted on this thread was about APs.

I don’t really know what ECs I’ll be doing, either. I didn’t get into student council so that’s out. I think for freshman year I’ll start off with debate, model UN, and start to enter in some student film festivals.

Hello guys! It’s nice to see that there are other 8th graders on cc and that I’m not the only one who is freaking out about college yet.
So, is anyone else interesting in going to college in europe? I would love to study in France or the UK but, for now, t’is just a dream :(

Study abroad? Maybe in France.

Poor kids…

^ My thoughts exactly.
