No, Elaina. I took Geometry in the 8th grade as well. That’s very advanced.
If you want to be more advanced, then take Algebra II over the summer or double up next year. Algebra II is just like Algebra I but with a little more easy stuff.

^He speaks the truth.

Thank you for agreeing.
But seriously, don’t let ANYTHING stress you out. If you want to be advanced, then try your best to be advanced. If you want to take it slow, then take it slow! This is your life, and though you’re still at school, it all depends on your decisions. Good or bad, they guide you on your way to success.

Something like that. I’m just a 16er and it’s 12:09 in the morning. :P

^Lol, we are up way to late…

Thankfully, the weekend will save me!

/activate sloth mode

I’m simultaneously watching Zero Dark Thirty. Pretty intense.

Let’s get out of here, we’re not 17ers haha!

@Applier We don’t have standardized tests, but we do have finals and many students opt to take the SAT/ACT on our own.

@Elaina No, you’re actually ahead! Algebra II is a 10/11th grade course. If you really want to take Precalc though, you could take Algebra II over the summer- but I would only advise that if you found Algebra I easy.

My math course progression is (6th) Alg. I -> (7th) H. Alg. II -> (8th, now) H. Geometry -> (9th) H. Precalc -> hopefully AP Calc BC, but I got accelerated early and never doubled up.

@Apollo: I’m most awake after 10 PM- I’m a night owl :D

Did anyone other than Secoja watch Zero Dark Thirty, Life of Pi, Lincoln, or the other Oscar films? I watched ZDT (yes, I know it’s R but my parents were okay with it, and frankly what’s on the news lately is much worse) and Life of Pi.

^I did. They were good

I honestly didn’t know we could take summer classes, but I think I will look into that now! I got 99/100% all year in Algebra 1 (same with Geometry) so Algebra 2 wouldn’t be too hard for me, right?
I can’t believe I’m awake at 7:30 on a Sunday…

@Elaina
I got a 97 in Algebra 1, but I had a terrible teacher, and then I got a 100 in Algebra 2 no problem. You should be fine.

If you guys are allowed to use calculators to do tests, or even if you’re not, I strongly urge to take the time to CHECK ALL YOUR ANSWERS. Even though most of the time I got the problems right, sometimes I would forget a minus sign, or do simple math wrong. If you just check it, which takes a matter of about 10 seconds, then you can get perfect scores on every test. I’ve been doing this since Algebra 2, and ever since I’ve been getting over a 100.

I only saw Django (nice, but way long)

Honestly, if you’re in Geometry in 8th grade you’re in very good shape. If you’re in Algebra I in 8th grade you’re in good shape. If you’re below Algebra I in 8th grade…well you’re not in good shape.

Most kids don’t do Pr-Calc till senior or junior year, so don’t worry too much about it. I mean, if you take Geometry your 8th grade year, you’ll be able to complete most all the math that usually is offered “up to AP Calc BC”. 9th grade Alg II, 10th grade Pr-Calc, 11th grade AP Calc AB, and 12th grade AP Calc BC.

That is one thing you guys should know, sometimes take everything said on CC with a grain of salt…people sometimes lie.

^Yes. There are so many people that lie about being in AP Calc and crap in the 9th grade or something. Some people lie and say they’re doing both AB and BC the same year, but it’s impossible to do that.
If you’re in Algebra I in the 9th grade, you’re not in bad shape. Just because you’re not “advanced” in math doesn’t mean that you’re not intelligent. Who knows, you may be a huge history buff, or good at English, or foreign languages. It doesn’t matter how advanced you are, it matters that you’re doing what you want to do.

Yeah. I was in/below Algebra I in 8th grade. (we have integrated math here so it’s complicated)

A lot of school systems don’t offer more than a couple advanced opportunities for those that aren’t in HS yet.

I just found out that my school does not offer AP Chemistry. I have heard this isn’t a great class to self-study (people have said you need the labs to grasp the concepts). I would really like to take the class. Suggestions?

Usually the highest math course you can do in 9th is Pre-Calc, if you do Algebra I in 6th. For science, if you took an Honors course in junior high, you probably will be allowed to do the AP version. For English, they may accelerate you a grade.

I tried to find this thread and it was invisible. Let’s bump it back up, shall we?

How many days of school does everyone have left? I have 18, not counting weekends. This year went by really fast!

^Lol, your thread is deserted…

Anyway, my school year goes on till ~June 27

@Elainajulia I get out on June 24 :’( it’s because of all these snow days here in MA…
