High School Class of 2019

As for my top universities… ok this is going to sound kind of elitist but here it goes (in no particular order) (I also know that getting into Columbia, Harvard, or Princeton is a complete reach, but you know, that’s what dreams are for amirite?):

Columbia- NYC!! Also, I’m from NJ so close to home, and I love their core curriculum and the fact that it is so focused on the classics

Princeton- The campus is beautiful and their art and archaeology departments are wonderful. Also HAVE YOU SEEN THEIR ART MUSEUM?! And it’s literally like ten minutes away from where I live now

Harvard- Beautiful campus, BOSTON (!!!), literally my dream ever since I was little, and their premed program is amazing

Georgetown University- WASHINGTON DC!!!, I always loved the campus and love the “feel” of the school

UC Berkeley- I would love to have the warm weather year round; beautiful campus; near family; great academics

UChicago- It’s in Chicago (!!!), which I always loved, great academics, near family

Duke University- Great academics, their accelerated med program (AHHH!!!), and the campus is breathtaking

Northwestern University- My cousin went there, and ever since then I’ve had a crush on it

UCLA- CALIFORNIAAA, LOS ANGELESSS, also the academics are great and its near family

NYU- I don’t know, but I’ve always really loved it

Williams College- Liberal Arts, beautiful campus, great academics

Amherst College- ^^^

Swarthmore College- ^^^

Wellesley- I fell in love with it after watching Mona Lisa Smile, great academics

Vassar- My idol went here, and great academics

For studying abroad, definitely either Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College, King’s College, or the Paris Sorbonne.

If I could, I would love to attend an art school, like CalArts, Ringling, or the Art Institute of Chicago, but that’s probably not happening

Well that was horribly long… Sorry bout that sheepish smile

Also @awesomepolyglot , my cousin attends Case Western and tells me it’s amazing!

I wanna go to Harvard since their premed program is AMAZING. I’m looking for premed-program schools so my tops are Harvard (unrealistic) MIT (more realistic) John Hopkins (a little more realistic) Notre Damme and Cornell.

My schools are:

UPenn
Stanford
Cornell
Carnegie Mellon
MIT
NYU
UCLA
UC-Berkeley
UCSD
Northeastern
Georgia Tech.
Duke

!!!

I have three lmao. I have not really thought about it or done any research. Anyways, they are:

-MIT (Awesome math department omg)
-Duke (In-state, so yaaaaaaasssss)
-Virginia Tech (safety because of 70% acceptance, I like the campus and wouldn’t mind it)

I forgot Georgia Tech and Carnegie Mellon, lol. Virginia Tech and UTK are my safeties, because 70% at VT and I’m in-state and likely to score 1400+ on the SAT CR&M.

@awesomepolygot This is really funny but two of my other cousins go to Carnegie Mellon and Georgia Tech.

Nice.

Do you guys want to have a rant session about the nature of gym class?

Sure. I really hate how the weight training class has gym at the same time as the regular PE class because the weight training class is filled with super athletic people, while my class is filled with awkward 9th and some 10th graders (including me), but we do have some athletic freshman. They are so OP and hardcore destroy us at every game.

They make us run the Pacer or do a practice push-up or curl-up test until we physically cannot make cadence and then make us keep going  A**holes

FitnessGram can go away forever and the world would be better for it.

The point of gym is to be about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours (depending on scheduling) of physical activity. The idea is that it’ll help meet recommended exercise time for the day and maybe even inspire kids to join a sport and live healthy lives.

They sure screwed that up. My gym class has a final with quotas for exercises that are almost unattainable. Mondays are devoted to testing. And all of my knowledge and common sense tells me that people with no prior training won’t be able to do 80 sit-ups and 30 push-ups. 75 laps on the pacer? Nope. It’s no fun and everybody hates it. The kids that play sports shouldn’t need to do the class and all they really do in the class is create low self-confidence in the athletic abilities of others. It’s not their fault, similar to how putting a fluent German speaker in German 1 would cause a huge inequality.

I asked the lovely Coach why we run the Pacer and he replied, “To improve your cardiovascular endurance.” Which is why we run it once a week for 4 minutes, amirite?

In conclusion, eff this ish.

Also, derping around on the Chance Me threads led me to find this gem: “Literally a pebble can get into (school).” I don’t know why, but that killed me.

Back to the college question, I haven’t done any research on any colleges but I love Duke! I went there for a Dance Festival and the food there was AMAZING! Not a very good reason to love a college but I also like the campus lol

And a little off topic: I’m so glad that my school has BlackBoard! It has every course on it, and the teachers post everything on it (Notes, Study Guides, Worksheets), you can literally get years ahead because the whole curriculum is already there. A years worth of class on a website

@adiacs I think that going to a college for the food is a great idea!! For me, without good food, I’m not learning anything :stuck_out_tongue:

@awesomepolyglot @IrrationalPepsi My PE is online…you’re luckier than you think. I would pay money to get a gym class at school.

@manspeak2u I AGREE 100%!

I mean, my gym teachers are terrible and mean and only teach so they can coach sports, but…

@manspeak2u How can you even do PE online? Isn’t the point of PE to get the daily quota of excercise?

@whimsicalwhims, I am pretty sure they have to get a certain piece of equipment that logs time. At least, that is how some online schools do it.

@awesomepolyglot, I miss the pacer test. We did it in middle school, and the last time we did it I got in the 100s. I like running lol

@IrrationalPepsi I’m done. LOL, jk, if you can get above 40 then good for you XD

I really like gym! I like pretty much every sport we do and my teacher likes me so it’s all good.
