High School Class of 2019

The worst math sequence at my school:

9th
-Foundations of Math I
-Math I End

10th
-Foundations of Math II
-Math II End

11th
-Math III

12th
-Discrete Math (not the hard college course) OR Advanced Functions & Modeling (it’s not an honors class, it’s just all about functions, which sounds cool…but…nah. This is what they usually take.)

What’s y’alls worst math sequence? (Disregarding failures lol)

@OneExcitedDude AP Calc AB = Calc 1 in college

@IrrationalPepsi There is more than one sequence which are the worst, at least one of which means you can’t graduate with out special permission

9th- Mathematical Approach to Problem Solving
10th- Algebra 1
11th- Geometry
12th- Bridge to Algebra 2

9th- Investigations into Math (IM) (Equivalent to PreAlgebra)
10th- Algebra 1 w/Support
11th- Geometry w/Support
12th- Bridge to Algebra 2

9th- Algebra 1 w/Support
10th- Geometry w/Support
11th- Bridge to Algebra 2
12th- Algebra 2 part 1 (two year sequence)

9th- Algebra 1 w/Support
10th- Geometry w/Support
11th- Algebra 2 part 1
12th- Algebra 2 part 2

9th Grade

  • Algebra 1 with Support

10th grade

  • Algebra 1

11th Grade
-Geometry

12th Grade
-Consumer Math ( Math in Preparation for Trade School)
-Algebra 2

Thats Our Worst Math Sequence

How do they do the SAT with just geometry by 11th grade? Lol

I dont think they care about taking. They only take CAHSEE( Exit Exam).

A sequence that puts Alg 2 at Senior year must be pretty bad. I took the SAT this year just to see what its like, and I didn’t prep at all. I had only just started Algebra, but I don’t think they have problems higher than Geometry. They may have a few Algebra 2 questions, though.

Oh. I’d hate myself if I was behind like that. I’m glad I’m pretty much a class ahead of the others.

Most of my friends are taking Geometry with me, and we took Algebra 1 last year.

The worst math sequence at my school is:

9th Grade
Geometry (you have to have Algebra 1 to get in)

10th Grade
Algebra 2

11th Grade
Pre-calculus

12th Grade
AP Calc AB or BC

@FoodIsLife13 that is probably one of the worst sequences I’ve ever seen
jk, jk, lol

That’s our normal sequence and that’s what I’m currently doing until I do summer school.

That’s a pretty good worst sequence lol

@FoodIsLife13 thats my sequence…

The worst sequence at my school would be:

Algebra 1 CP

Geometry CP

Algebra 2 CP

Precalculus CP

(CP stands for College Placement. Basically slower class and doesn’t go in much detail.)

Hey, @OneExcitedDude, that’s not too bad lol. At least they get to precalculus

What’s the most advanced math sequence possible at your schools?

At my school the most advanced is:
5th- Math 7
Teacher recommendation to skip PreAlgebra
6th- Algebra 1 (no honors class exists)
7th- Honors Geometry
8th- Honors Algebra 2 <— I am here
9th- Honors Precalculus
10th- AP Calc BC (Argue with GC until they let you skip AP Calc AB)
11th- DE Multivariable and DE Differential Equations/Linear Algebra/Complex Variables/Whatever math class you want
12th- Whatever DE courses you want

For DE courses you have to pay for the class and find the transportation to the nearby community college.
AP Stat is also available after Honors Algebra 2.
New graduation requirement states that ALL students in my county HAVE to take a math course EVERY YEAR of high school. No matter what math you reach.

Mine is:

8th grade:
-Math I (No honors at all)

9th grade:
-Math II honors
-Math III Honors

10th grade:
-Precalculus (Weighted as honors due to the course being advanced)
-Discrete Math Honors

11th grade:
-AP Calculus Preparation (essentially calculus)
-AP Calculus AB*

12th grade:
-DE courses
-AP Stats**

*There’s no AP Calculus BC at my school, but it may be offered soon enough.

**AP Stats in the spring is easier because the AP exam is in the spring.

At my school the fastest pace is:

7th grade:
-Algebra 1 Honors <==me

8th grade:
-Geometry Honors <==me

9th grade:
-Algebra 2 Honors <==me(hated this class)

10th grade:
-Precalculus Honors
-Trigonometry Honors<==me
-AP Statistics

11th grade:
-AP Calculus AB* <==Me right now
-AP Statistics <==Me right now

12th grade:
-AP Calculus BC <==Next year
-AP Statistics

You can take ap stats from 10-12. I’m in ap calc ab and ap stats.

@Gatortristan, it’s cool that you’re a Junior who is participating in this thread. :stuck_out_tongue: Didn’t think anyone above freshman would lol.

It’s hard to define an advanced math sequence at my future High school because I don’t know if they’ll allow flexibility, but, based off of my knowledge, it’s the hardest. I hope they offer AP Calc BC because I wanted to DE Calculus III.

Does anyone know if AP Calculus AB or BC are exact high school replicas of the Calculus I and II? I don’t wanna be lost in Calculus III if it’s not.

@IrrationalPepsi they aren’t exact replicas, since colleges do differ with respect to the syllabi of Calc I and Calc II, but generally they’re pretty close. If you do well in Calc BC, you should be good to go in Calc III.

Theres two advanced sequences in my school

8th Grade:

  • Algebra 1

9th Grade:

  • Accelerated Geometry or Geometry ( Accel isnt weighted)

10th Grade
-Algebra 2/Trig ( A lot of students want this to be a weighted course because of the rigor)
-Algebra 2 ( If They take Trig in the summer or during another period they can go to precalc)

11th Grade
-Probability/Statistics
-Precalc ( B/A in Algebra 2 or a C in Alg.2/Trig)
-PreCalculus Honors

12th Grade

  • AP Stats
  • AP Calc AB

GATE Students

7th Grade:
Algebra 1

8th Grade:
Geometry

9th Grade:
Algebra II/Trig

10th Grade:
Precalc Honors

11th Grade:
AP Calc AB
AP Calc BC

12th Grade
AP Stats
AP Calc BC
DE??

I don’t think my school allows Dual Enrollment?

Oh snap lol this the 8th grade thread…awkward lol
