High School Drug/Alcohol/Sex/Gang

and it just sparks me to mention as well that, some of the kids that i knew where doing cocaine at my high school where because they thought it would help them lose weight(because they had seen another girl at a school lose weight doing it)

As I said in my post, limited alcohol exposure has had no negative effects on my education whatsoever . . . I understand the problem with drugs but don't with alcohol if you are responsible enough to not do something idiotic due to it. As for sex . . . well . . . when it comes to adults it seems to be taboo although I don't see the harm if appropriate precautions against STD's and pregnancy is taken.

And why do you guys believe I should have gone private?

I have a 2350 and I knock down plenty of shots with my friends every weekend. Intelligence has nothing to do with recreation.

Not only are the drugs mentioned by others used at my D's public school, but a few years ago there was a huge uproar over the use of ritalin as a diet drug. It was being sold by kids for whom it was prescribed, and snorted to keep the skinny gilrs skinny.

yea i have a 2330 and do the same.

"And why do you guys believe I should have gone private?"

Spelling and grammar.

So 2330 and 2350 that just proves that being academically smart doesn't mean you have common sense. Hope you aren't driving anywhere after you knock down plenty of shots every weekend.

No, I'm not. So why don't I have common sense?

I don't have the free time to bother making my posts grammatically correct. If you do then that is very good for you. It was good enough to get me into the number 5 college in the country.

and no I don't drive either. And I also ask why I don't have common sense.

They (and I, from experience) find private school students extremely egoistic, shallow and self centered. in fact, i never go out of my way to hang out with the private school crowd for that reason alone. although they are nice, they simply are raised believing that they are better than others.

This is a pretty obnoxious generalization. Not sure how well you are going to like a lot of the Duke kids!

the Duke kids I've met are all down-to-earth despite the 'rich kid' ideal everyone seems to have about them. much better than the private school students I've met.

and let me guess, you have a private school child?

Yep- I have two kids who attended private school. I found the kids to be the opposite of shallow and self-centered. They all cared a great deal about their education and their school community. They can construct a sentence, too.

Do you truly feel the need to take a cheap grammer shot at a high school student as a grown woman?

she is quite welcome to take all the grammar shots she wants to. just shows her immaturity. I am brimming with insults that fit her perfectly but I'm exercising enough restraint to not both fighting fire with fire. She's welcome to insult my grammar all that she wants, just shows her own immaturity. And if her children are as superficial as she is, I rest my case regarding private school children.

just to let you know, in all likelihood I'm more articulate than you and your children combined woman. I've been on a debate team for the last four years and am currently a national level debater in 2 events. good luck getting better grammar than me in any form of speech.

Good luck at Duke. Better get that chip off your shoulder first, though.

an ironic comment coming from the initial aggressor.

Our school had a racial riot between latinos and blacks at lunch my freshman year, I saw it myself. It started at snack and escalated at lunch. The fight was HUGE, hell even the principal got punched in the face. One kid pretended to be calmed down and then proceeded to grab a pair of crutches and jump back in.

Then last year (my sophmore year) a freshman black student was killed walking home afterschool by a gang of mexicans for no apparent reason. They have still not been apprehended.

Yet my school has the IB program...a school of two extremes

126230- I am so sorry you had to see that. I can't imagine how scary that must be.

Wow, I know that this stuff goes on at every school but some of these stories have to be exaggerations. If they are not then you need to talk to your schools administration. I myself go to a poor school we have the drinking, drugs, and sex but none of this is happening at school. I dont even know how somone could sell drugs at a school unless the administration is completely blind.

Also the parents should be blamed just as much as the students. They should know where their kids are, and what they are doing. I know many parents who have no clue where their kids are ever at, and guess what, these kids are the ones doing the drugs and drinking. And how can a parent not tell when their children have turned into a drugy? They change completely.

its quite simple, the administration can only do so much. its almost impossible to catch them. Only one has been, and that is because he was reported. i doubt any1 will report after what happened to the kid who told though.
