High School foreign language

So I just recieved my old high school transcripts because I want to get my IGETC cert all worked out. Well I noticed that I didnt do so well in Spanish, and actually got a C- one semester. This is considered a 2.0, not a 1.7. I cant see my counselor till next monday (not this monday), and Im not sure if they will count a C-. I am enrolled in a foreign language class for the next semester, but I dont know if I should include it on my UC update yet because I might not need to take it. If I do take it, it will push my units almost to 90 which is something I want to avoid.

First, why would you not want to “push your units to 90”? Assumming that you have spent all of your time at a CCC, there is absolutely NO limit for the amount of units! This is one of the most commonly confused subjects on this site.

UC’s will only allow 70 units (105 quarter units) from a CCC to go towards your 180 quarter units needed for graduation. However, any cclasses you take passed the 70 units at your CCC will be given subject credit (i.e. you will never have to retake these classes).

Secondly, USUALLY a C- counts as being a “C or better”. To ensure this is true, don’t wait to talk to your CCC counselor, most of them are terrible, call the UC admissions office of campuses you applied to.

Lastly, remember you need two years of high school foreign language or one semester of it at your CCC to pass the requirement for IGETC.

the foreign language classes u take in high school count if you got at least a C- (so u are fine) and btw since these are high school classes the grades u got for them don’t get averaged into your community college gpa. since they are not college classes u basically just get credit for passing them that is all.
