Mom2ck- She wants to major in civil/environmental engineering as of now and Calculus hasn’t eaten her alive yet, so I think that will be a go. She is also interested in International Relations and may want to do something with that in engineering down the road. We’ll definitely ask for some travel tips as we’re from the Pacific NW and our only experience of Alabama has been through Harper Lee!

4safrontman, welcome to Bama! We love the Pacific NW, and son would love to meet someone from that area. I don’t think he’s met Seatide yet.

A travel tip, Southwest does have hubs in Seattle and Birmingham, so keep an eye out for Wanna Get Away fares!

Congratulations on the scholarship!

Keep us posted!

Welcome 4safrontman and congratulations on your daughter’s admission and scholarship to UA. It’s always great to see more people from the Pacific Northwest at UA. Echoing Montegut, it is actually quite convenient to fly to Alabama from the Pacific Northwest, even if flying from smaller cities, since every major airline (including Alaska) flies these routes.

Roll Tide!

Congrats, 4safrontman, to you and your daughter. Graduating debt-free sounds pretty awesome, doesn’t it?

I’m not sure that the thread has made it clear that SEA_tide is a student from the Pacific NW and one of the most knowledgable, informed, and gracious people on this board. Make sure you connect with him. He is always open to receiving PMs and was instrumental in helping my son decide to come all the way from Hawaii to attend UA.

Thank you all for the congrats. I’ll admit to lurking on this site a bit and one thing I’ve noticed is that there is a lot of helpful advice and everyone is genuinely quite nice. One of the reasons we considered even looking at UA was the vibe I got from reading Sea_tide, mom2ck and others. Thanks again.

Agree with malanai. Seatide was very helpful to my family when we planned our vacation from New Orleans to Seattle/Washington state this past summer. I’m sure he can give you some travel tips.

Is anyone going to the UA day 11/11?

rjw…some here are going. Have you toured Bama before? I don’t know if there is a campus tour that day.

Where are you coming from???

4sfrontman…

*Mom2ck- She wants to major in civil/environmental engineering as of now and Calculus hasn’t eaten her alive yet, so I think that will be a go. *

Engineering! Do you know that your D will also get $2500 per year from engineering for her stats? :)

Mom2ck- Yes!!! I did realize it thanks. Another one of the reasons she applied. Now if she could get in the running for CBHP/Fellowes/ Crimson she might actually forget about the other applications!

Reporting, S is 80% toward Alabama. The other 2 runner ups are Florida and Georgia Tech.

We have decided to move forward and pay the deposits and secure housing space. If he ends up somewhere else we will take it as the cost of doing business.

I live in Montgomery .
I have never done a formal tour before, but I have friends (and a boyfriend heh) who go to UA, and, since I’m only 2 hours away, I have visited plenty.
I’m also going to set up a VIP tour sometime…

I’m very conflicted, as far as college selection goes!

Is your son applying to CBH??

*I’m very conflicted, as far as college selection goes! *

Why?

Are you NMSF???

yes, i’m a NMSF.

Obviously the scholarships and opportunities at Alabama are limitless…but I also really want to get out of Alabama…I’m looking at schools in big cities (e.g. Tulane, Northwestern, U of Toronto)

^^^

Keep in mind that with the Bama NMF scholarship, not only do you get the study abroad money, but you can also use the tuition portion towards a semester abroad. That’s a nice way to “get out of Alabama” - so to speak.

And, also, with the money that your family would save, can’t you negotiate something like maybe a big trip somewhere this summer after graduation?

My son was accepted at Tulane with a very nice scholarship but opted for the University of Alabama. There were a lot of considerations and money was definitely one of the factors but there were other things as well.

My son visited all the universities that made his final list and he was accepted at. Although there were others that were very nice (like the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill). None of the colleges/universities offered the personal touch and educational opportunities that UA had along with the terrific scholarships.

He was accepted at 16 schools, so he plenty of great choices, many of them were much closer to home.

I recently asked him if he made a good choice and he said he made the “right” choice. That said, college is what you make of it.

how long after everything is in will i know if i am accepted?

Once your school’s transcript is sent/received and your scores are rec’d, I would imagine that you’d know within a few weeks.

Your new SAT scores should be online next week, right? Tuesday? or another day? That means Bama will also get them next week if you selected them as one of your “free choices.”

Considering that he’s painted up on home game days, I’d say that he’s making the most of his college days. :)

M2CK: The October SAT scores will be online October 28. I know. I have students who have not slept since they took the exam!
