Highest Priority Wait-List.

Did anyone get a letter that says "we are inviting you to accept placement in our highest priority wait-list before May 15, 2008..."

What does it mean?

Does it mean that I have a high chance to get in?

Thanks

I didn't know they had "a highest priority wait-list." Although, a lot of other brand-name public universities have some form of a priority wait-list. Anyone know what it may mean?

It means they will consider you first and then consider the people on the regular waitlist.

Hehe, based on the fact that almost nobody was flat-out rejected this year, I think that "regular waitlist" probably = rejection and "high-priority waitlist" probably = waitlist. :/

How do you know that? I happen to know quite a few students rejected.

It may seem that Michigan puts a lot of people on waitlist (and they do) but the pool is so large that it's only around 20% or so. For example, last year Michigan admitted around 50%, waitlisted 20% and rejected 30%.

The key is only about 2,000 people stayed on the list out of 5,600 invited.

I had no idea a "highest priority" waitlist existed at any school, let alone Michigan

hmm my letter had an almost similar wording exept said, "...we intive you to place your name on an extended waiting list....please accept or decline...before May 15, 2008."

My hopes aren't too high because the letter said to make other arrange ments. But, I'm not sure what they're trying to pull here, nor am I particularly interested in knowing; I accepted just because I never give up. I'm just wondering if any other schools besides Michigan are as....shall I say, generous with their waitlist, because my friend who was waitlised from Duke said they only waitlist about 1,000 and anywhere from 100-200 can get in. It might have something to do with the amount of applicants Michigan got, but I still find it strange.

same here,
"we are inviting you to accept placement in our highest priority wait-list before May 15"@college of engineering

Hopefully they will take a lot of people from wait-list :(

My question is IS THE FINAL DAY TO BE NOTIFIED FOR ADMISSION APRIL 15?

Is there any highest priority wait-list in the past?

I'm just curious about the whole 'highest priority' thing, because on the university of michigan website it says that waitlisted applicants are not ranked, so does this mean that they are also not grouped aswell? lol. Maybe someone should email admissions if they are interested enough.

This is hopeless though...I can't be undecided till mid to end of June!! That's just madness!

You may be notified as early as mid May... if Michigan takes a significant number off the waitlist like they did in 2006.

provididigy, did your Wolverine Access decision page allow you to accept a place on this 'highest priority waiting list'?

Or is this something you'll only find out from the mail? Anybody knows?

I found out that I was on the "highest priority list" via regular mail. Came out today (4/14).

Well, just got the letter informing me about my placement in this "highest priority waiting list" ... haven't seen posts about it in previous years though. Is this the first time they're implementing it?

yep - highest priority waitlist too.... wondering the same.... how many do they normally accept off of the waitlist??

Haha, I got highest priority waitlist as well...wonder if this is some extended version of a "false hope" scheme or we actually have a chance. THis is getting ridiculous.

What stats do those of you who are on the priority wait list have?

Anyone not hear back yet? I haven't.
