History/Gov for IGETC (UC)

At the beginning of the year I thought I was going to transfer to a CSU so i enrolled in a history class; Native American history. But now I've decided to transfer to a UC and UC's don't require history/gov. classes for IGETC. Should I just drop my history class now (with a "W" of course)? I'm not doing too well in that class anyways.. I'd say I'm going to get barely a B in that class.

I’m also taking a Nutrition class… which really isn’t required… considering I’m a math major applying to UC’s. I took it because I was going to transfer to a CSU and it fulfills one of the CSU areas. But I’m probably getting an A in it… this class will be counted in my GPA right?

@Anth
history? you can use them for IGETC AFAIK. I wouldn’t drop it since you need history to graduate from a UC anyways. check this out. http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/educators/counselors/resources/materials/ETS09/ETS09_TransferQ&A_FINAL.pdf

@ iZychr: Are you sure that you need a sociology class to graduate? I mean you don’t NEED one for IGETC. I took sociology, and it was perfectly acceptable to satisfy the requirement.

I’m pretty sure that you don’t absolutely need a history class if you aren’t majoring in it. I’m a Psych major and the graduation requirements for Berkeley are:

1) 120 units completed.
2) 8 upper div classes completed.
3) 2 electives.

@ anth: I would drop the history/gov class. If you’re not enjoying it, and will barely manage a B/B-, I highly recommend dropping it. The UC’s won’t mind if you have a W or 2 or even 3. Plus, you have another 2 or 3 semesters before transferring (counting summer), and your summer/fall grades are what will matter the most. Stick it out in Nutrition if you’re getting an A…if it’s not UC transferrable, though, it won’t matter.

@emilsinclair
did you check my link? it pretty much explains everything, so yeah.

sociology? I think you’re on the wrong page.

@emilsinclair9

yeah I don’t think it’s required for graduation… on my IGETC checklist paper it says
“U.S. History, Consistution, and American Ideals: CSU Graduation Requirement ONLY (not part of IGETC; may be completed prior to transfer”

I’m gonna ask my counselour about all this this monday though. But thank you guys for the feedback!

Yeah I did briefly :p. I think that it’s a great link, but how recent is it? I’m pretty certain that you don’t need history to graduate even though the link did say otherwise.

I mean I have IGETC finished without history and have gone 3 for 3 in the UC’s so far in admissions.

What you’re saying is that I’ll have to take a semester of history within the next 2 years at a UC, correct?

/facepalm

You’ll be needing to take it at a UC anyways…

@ iZychr: Sorry I meant history - not sociology. (In reference to my initial post).

@iZychr

where does it say that we have to take it at a UC?

On his link, it says on pages 5-6, but I’m still skeptical. I’ve just never heard of anybody “having” to take a history/gov class. I’ll take your word for it for now…unless someone else on here has other information. Thanks for the heads up, iZychr.

The link is official BTW. Go ask an admissions officer.
