@rubichino:1) To be back in my homeland to contribute (i think that is my sole purpose)- I do not want to lose my roots and stuff. And i feel that Hong Kong is really a nice place to stay in. The vibrancy is not something I can experience in Singapore.

Gee, you guys are SO ASIAN to ask my why not LSE - haha

Anyway, by international standards, LSE indeed has an excellent reputation and actually job prospects are pretty amazing too. But, I know for a fact the professors there aren’t as good (say compared to Warwick), it is just the selectivity of LSE allows it to take almost the best students - who are very good at self-studying already. It doesn’t have a campus - and I wouldn’t want to pay heaps just for going into Room 808 in Building X. If I am paying that much, I would very much want a proper campus where I can get heavily involved. After class, you don’t really have a chance to talk to your classmates, since everyone disappears - except if you go clubbing - drinking which is not my thing AT ALL.

In terms of finance, LSE is one year cheaper than Berkeley (after I adjusted for standard of living, one year in each school is about the same). But I would most definitely choose Berkeley over LSE because of what Berkeley can offer. - Don’t think they give any aid to internationals though - esp when its a public school where their budgets just got chopped.

I didn’t apply for scholarships in HKU, I think, its an automatically eligible thing? (correct me if I am wrong) So when they officially accept you they tell you which scholarships you stand a chance for.

—Much of my argument for staying in HK is more or less the same as ysbera’s
Easier access to work in China
Saves money for grad school (hopefully top schools in US/UK then)
I want to spend more time with my family (instead of being overseas)
Much Cheaper (I really don’t want to burden my family with heaps of school fees)
Strong course and networking.

But sunny California is very convincing too…

@SDG1 yea for dual degree but regarding your statement about UST gender composition OH NO… :)

@TheGrand yea I don’t really like how the London universities don’t have a campus and most people just either spend all their time studying in their rooms or clubbing. US universities (campus based ones) definitely provide a better college experience in my opinion.

@dqbonafide: So, how big is the chance that you will be going to HKUST? Or do you prefer Singapore more? NTU turned me down but NUS still no news yet.

@ thegrand : If I have a choice I did go the the states too . Good campus. Vibrant environment. People from all over the world. Agree about LSE being least of an attraction when they do not have a campus.

@donutz : Same NTU is so strict, they didn’t even put me in waiting list. NUS still awaiting like you. I will be going UST if NUS turns me down too.

@flibb : just check the online admission status. Yes they are very strict about your results.

@rubincinho : seriously speaking , I have little idea why did I apply for HK universities in the first place. I found out about HK through the education fairs and then I did some research & found out HK universities are pretty good reputation wise. Before this I have no idea about studying in HK and now I am 80% heading there coming August. Just follow the flow and see what is my choice infront of me. Live life happily :D

@dqbonafide: Haha, me too. I have no idea why I applied for Hong Kong Universities in the first place. I only get to know Hong Kong universities through an education fair and got impressed by their rankings and reputations. The Star Education Fair 2009 in KL Convention Centre isn’t it?

Wow, I’m sure the International Recruitment office from those HK Universities will be impressed to hear that from you. Hehehee.
Anyone else received any good news from HKU?

@donutz : yea yea … anyway i got in touch with a student ambassador from Malaysia and he proves to be real helpful to my queries. I suggest you do the same !

@TheGrand: I just got an offer for HKU and I think i’ll go there
I didn’t apply for scholarships neither. They hope they’ll give us some. But in the email that I got, they didn’t mention anything about scholarship…

there was an entrance scholarship app for international students, it was supposed to be sent in with app. I remember i found it after i already mailed everything in and so i emailed asking if it was okay if they received it after the deadline but it was postmarked before the deadline, they said i could just email a copy of it to them and it would be filed with my app. not to burst anyones hopes, but i think that was necessary if you wanted any scholarship =/ i’d ask them soon about scholarships, so as not to falsely get hopes up. they should have included scholarship information with your acceptance email, im pretty sure.

and @thegrand- UC berkeley, congrats!! but yea, finances for out-of-state or international are terrible, super expensive! weatherwise, if i went to CA, i would much prefer UCSD or a uni in socal. san francisco(UCB) weather im not too fond of, it can get realllly cold, and sort of humid windy cold, which is the worst. of course, some nice weather now, but mark twain once said something like “the coldest winter i ever knew was summer in san francisco” or something like that…but thats just me, i know ppl who totally disagree, they prefer san fran over san diego anyday!

Yay, so I have another ‘virtual’ friend in the Faculty of Business and Economics in HKU next year haha. I’m pretty set with HKU’s BBA (IBGM) so yea…

After a while when decisions are all out, we should compile a list of who’s going where in HK, that’ll be pretty cool :)

Hey guys, I got accepted to HKU (IBGM) and UST (Global Business), but I really don’t know which want to go ahead with…
I personally prefer HKU, because it has more international students and the course I would be taking (IBGM) is “interdisciplinary” and thus I would be able to take courses from Psychology etc. And not to mention Lankwai is down the road…
BUT.
HKUST is offering me a full scholarship for the whole three years… which means I could use the $42,000 to get my own place or something… because I heard dorms at HKU/UST are terrible and people only stay for the cheap prices. Also, Global Business is a kickass programme - supposedly - and UST’s business school is generally better than HKU’s.

but… i really have no idea what to do.
Which one should i go for?
Please tell me what you think! c:
