I’m playing the game safe myself lol I paid my deposit for a school in the US in case my conditional offer doesnt work out for HKUST… but hopefully it’ll work out and I get to go to HK this fall!

For business students, I would hands-down choose a HK uni over other US or UK universities (unless of course if it’s Wharton or whatever). I mean just think about the location! HK is one of the business capitals in Asia, and in HK there’s a nice mix between the western and the asian culture. And if you’re worried about the language, you can always learn it…I don’t speak a word of canto myself, except ‘hello’, but I guess I’ll pick it up once I live there lol

Lastly, just think about the price! I was pretty shocked at how much the tuition fee costed for HKU/HKUST compared to any unis in UK or the US. IT’S CHEAP. Like TheGrand said, the tuition fee to go to LSE would get him 5 bachelor’s degrees at HKU. I think, enough said.

I am going to sleep, I have been watching a super awesome TV show till 2 am these past few days but I can’t do it today anymore. So sad I need to be really awake for the exam.

1]where are you all from ?
US right now
2] can international students WORK part-time though? like…some people said only HK ppl can work in HK…
Yeah, I think you can’t work with the student visa.
3] are you plannin to do exchange programs?
Probably yea
4] do you think u’d feel left-out by the HK locals and mainland students at HKU ? this is actually wut worries me the most caz i don’t speak canto!
Well I know how to speak canto so I can’t answer that.
5] have you applied for housing? which dorm?
Not yet. But I think for housing, they give priority to international students.
6] does HKU have an orientation for students to sign up for classes or sth like that? how do we sign up for classes?
Um… not sure sry.
7] what’s ur plan after graduating from hku ?
Staying in HK. I don’t think its hard to get a job in hk with a degree in HKU.

But I think IBGM kids have a lot more options for oversea exchange, for other bba students you don’t get as much options. I think the best we can do is probably NYU stern or maybe King’s college

Now that you guys are talking about picking a college based on cost, would TheGrand you pick LSE if it costs as much as hku?

Actually I got accepted into UVA (if I attend, I will definitely get into its b-school) and it costs as much as hku only.

I think I have at least 14 papers left haha. But it felt pretty weird today doing the “real thing”. It really hit me when I saw the blue lined answer sheets (which looks awesome) and thought this is the real deal. M09!

@ysbera: haha I know what you mean! before going into the exam site, I was thinking that this exam actually counts for the real thing and it made me nervous

I still have 12 more papers to go! I only had one today =]

QUESTION:
i know that both HKU and HKUST have high rankings in the wolrd according to Times Higher Education… but, in other sources such as newsweek it has a much lower ranking:( not that i care about ranking thaaat much, but my dad does
why? i thought it’s worldly known :(

I don’t exactly think its world known but more known in Asia. Actually really known in Asia. Tell him only the best students of Mainland China actually get to go to HK universities. People in China will be extremely impressed. I guarantee much more than UW, and UW is probably relatively unheard of in China.

But if your dad really cares about rankings, just go to UW.

I think it has to do with the different criteria’s used for rankings. For example UCL is ranked 7 by times and probably 30> by Shanghai Jiaotong (btw this ranking is known to be more objective).
