HKU or HKUST

@spillcanvas: Prepartory year is the same as year 0. If you complete your bachelor in 4 years then you’ll begin your studies at year 0.

Hey, Michelle, do note that spillcanvas was referring to the costs in HKUST. In HKU, the costs distribution will be quite different. For example, transportation is about half of that of HKUST (my estimation). Food is fairly cheap too - more or less the same at both institutions.

hahaha, i totally forgot! ok well, then i know i wont spend more than 2700$ a month, i hope…

Hey do any of you plan to settle down permanently in Hong Kong? As in get a job, buy a house, get citizenship/passport?

@Spillcanvas

Haha Koreans are so awesome. I am going to Korea next week for a week yay!

@spillcanvas: I’m Korean too! haha but I haven’t lived in Korea for a long time either lol

Anyways, I think I’m going to be taking French or maybe Japanese for my language course…I took IB French ab initio and it was pretty good so might as well continue learning it…

Hmm more diversity! :D

Forgive me spillcanvas, and call it Television Brainwashing, but I am convinced you are from South Korea and not North…true right?
Thanks a lot for the detailed expenses, they clearly give a better picture. AND…I think the expenses are pretty reasonable Need I remind anyone, the expenses are in HKD and not USD :)

Oh, @Donutz: since Language centers offer regular u-grad courses just like other departments do (e.g. LANG 101) , I am pretty certain they don’t require extra money.

@merrypips, spillcanvas: …jesus, I thought I was the only Korean here… It could’ve been 3 koreans in HKUST if i didn’t change my mind to HKU… So are you guyz pretty sure about UST now?

spillcanvas, thanks alot for the detailed breaking down of living expenses, really needed tht, well planning my budget. so HKD 2700, looks really reasonable. really appreciate your breaking down of the expenses.

haha, permanently summer im pretty much used to that, 28-32 Celsius everyday for most of my life and you get used to that, though im guessing it cooler there in HK than that.

now the next part is that i just cnt wait to get thr!!! soo excited.

n thnx again spillcanvas, btw im just curious as to wht u do thr now, r u a senior UG or do u do PG, mybe uve posted tht sometime ago but sorry im a bit new here

@spillcanvas : 2700$ is much lesser than the 4000$ the UST website wrote.
Which am I to trust ?

Yourself, ultimately it’s you who is the one spending ;)

hey Shahab, so sorry I didn’t read that post, thanks for the update :D

can anyone tell me more bout hkust.
How will i get scholarship. Will they contact me?
Can u pls tell me bout placements.
Is the degree worldwide recognized.
thanks
i am an internatiopnal applicant

@niksy_nik7 : Once you had apply and get the offer, they will definitely contact you and tell you about the available scholarship. For my case, the international office officer is very helpful and they always answer my enquiry through email in a relatively fast period. And, of course, the degree is HKUST is recognized by world wide.
And, that’s the reason so many people in this thread is applying to HKUST, am i right, guys? :)

hey thanks for your reply.
I have got the letter of acceptance,
but nothing is mentioned bout scholarship.
I have got mechanical over there, but i have asked them to change it to comp.sc.
I presume that i dont have to give interview over there
wat bout the placements

does the letter of acceptance mean i have been accepted, there is no such offer thing in my email
i got excellent grades in my class 12

@Flibb: Can we learn more than one language? And will we have to take the languages as extra subjects in the exams? It will be burdensome if we do.

@QuincyKid: Sure!

@niksy_nik7: I think the letter of acceptance overides the offer, acceptence is alot more important than an offer. So yes, I think you have been accepted. If there is any scholarship, they should be providing you a scholarship offer letter along with the acceptance letter. You should contact them to enquire about the scholarship. Good luck.
