^also, whether one gives a correct answer or not is not that important. nobody expects a 17-yo to have an answer for a touchy issue. it’s more about the ability to express yourself clearly and logically.

Thanks Sam Lee! I understand the importance of interviews and our school made us prepare for them by having several mock interviews and my interviewers put me in the top 4 because I always had a good story to tell to them Seems like everything you do in life does not go a waste after all !!
But my question was why was I not asked for an interview unlike all the other people on here who have applied to HKUST??? I mean all of us are applying to the same university, i.e. HKUST, but everyone but me seems to have had an interview already and people who applied early have still not been offered admission!!! I hope I got into the right University and the mails were not spam!! hahaha… Luckily I called them and confirmed… lol

Sam Lee and Sarthak, Thank you both for the chance.

Does anyone know when the decisions come out? The website said I can online around April. And does Medicine come out later than Econ/Finance and BEng?

Also, one more question. Is there a website that has rankings for MBA/ Engineering for ASIA universities (I looked at US News, but I was curious to know if there are asian websites with rankings as well).

Thank you for the help,

No problem iRunShow!

It is a rolling decision process, so it could really come up anytime depending on when you applied, how keen they are on having you in their University and how strong your application is!

I remember my School Counsellor telling us about a recent ranking that Jiaotong or Tsinghua University did which has become very popular! Not sure if its free or not, try to google it and check it out!

If anyone wants to find out anything about the HKUST campus then let me know i’ll be going in February and April …

@sarthak- application for on campus housing doesnt happen until u get ur final ib grades sent in. so i guess u would get the application around july/august. btw i strongly suggest u go for hall 7, its a bit more expensive but its defo worth it.

@danjroman- Def worth it? Is it better in some ways?

@Sarthak: Haha! Thanks
You applied in Early Nov…but did you send all your documents immediately?
And congrats on your offer of admission. I’m guessing you weren’t offered an interview for two reasons! One, your predicted IB is strong and two, as Sam Lee correctly said, interview is a more like a requirement for Business students!
Oh and did you straight away get an e-mail of admission offer from HKUST or did a counsellor first e-mail you? Also, is HKUST your first preference?
Btw, from your name you sound Indian! I’m an Indian too =D

Anybody else out here who got an e-mail from HKUST undergrad recruitment office?

Hey danjroman! Thanks a lot for the info!! I’ll wait then, and will def apply for Hall 7…
Rebecca I think what he means is that the atmosphere there is better and maybe the people too… i’m guessing .!

Hey System Failure, yeah I sent my documents within a week after applying, its always better to finish everything ur askd to do asap, gives the Uni a better impression!!
Yeah thats what I suspect too, interviews make sense for people who’ll be doing the management and human resource studies!
Well it was a long process!! I kept emailing them with Q’s about the status of my application, how its going and if they needed anything, then they emailed me about few other things that they needed etc, and eventually they emailed me an admissions offer!
Well I have been accepted by around 9 US Universities, 1 UK (Imperial), and HKUST, and as of now HKUST best suits my needs and criteria!

Yes I am an Indian!! But I live in Shanghai, moved hear two years ago, lived in India for 16 years, in Lucknow… where about in India are you from !? I must say from your name you dont sound Indian!! haha (just kiddin)

I havent heard from anyone else who has been accepted yet, even people in my School who applied at the same time as I did !!! StrangE!

Hey Sarthak,

Do you mind sharing what other unis you got into (out of the ~9). Cornell by any chance?

Thanks

Hey iRunShow thanks for asking! I just posted a new thread asking for people to critique my decision of going to HKUST:

I’ll copy Paste the info here:

"Hey guys!
I have decided to go to HKUST, as I have mentioned in my thread before, just want to make sure I’m right in choosing it over US and UK!
Please tell me what you think !!

Universities accepted to:
Georgia Tech, Illinois, U Michigan, Purdue, Rose-Hulman, Kettering, Franklin W. Olin, Imperial (UK), HKUST, University of Texas-Austin, University of California-Berkeley.

Waiting to hear from:
National University of Singapore, Rice, Cornell, Carnegie Melon.

Rejected/Deferred by:
Cooper Union

Reasons for going to HKUST:
- 3 years course instead of 4
- Asian experience and can learn Mandarin (Chinese)
- Cheap and also Full Scholarship offered to me (US around quarter of a million dollars)
- Close to home (parents live in Shanghai right now, and we are Indians, so India is close too)
- Hong Kong is a BEAUTIFUL place and the HKUST Campus is amazing!!!
- Big University (unlike Rose-Hulman, Kettering, Olin, and Cooper Union)
- Great for Mechanical Eng, was established in 1991, and is already 24 in World Rankings!!
- Economy and Job market is strongly moving towards Asia, China being the hub !!
- Can do my Post Grad from Stanford, or MIT in US and get that exposure too, plus will take the exchange program at HKUST for a term in US!

What do you guys think ?!?! Any suggestions, criticism will be of GREAT help !"

** EDIT NOTE:

UCB awaiting admission decision!!
Should be out on 25th of March hopefully! **

@Sarthak: I’m unable to PM you. Have you chosen not to be PMed?
Gimme your e-mail otherwise. I feel like discussing soooo muchh =D

I’m not sure … From where can I choose to be Pmed ?! I didn’t uncheck that option if i remember correctly!

Hey I just sent you a message with my email id, and tried editing my PM options, should be okay now…

Hey sarthak,
i too have applied to NUS…
it will be without a doubt my first choice if i get in…
Its an outstanding uni (i had a cousin who went there who is now at MIT)
But they release there results really late!!!

I still can’t PM you! I’m getting this message:
“Sarthak19118 has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.”

I hate to break it to you but I think China’s censoring CC forums too. LOL. Anyway, I’ve sent you a chat invitation from my gmail account. Hope they haven’t blocked the chat feature!

Thank God! HK has a different system of governance. I’d be dead without stuff like Facebook! :P

@ Anand: Would you put NUS before HKUST ? If so would you mind telling me why?

@ System Failure: I just accepted your request on my gmail account, if that was your id!
China blocking sites is seriously getting me really ****ed off!! You can’t imagine what Life without Facebook and Youtube is like !!! :O

Sarthak19118: haha sorry to bother you again… but yeah, have you received the student package yet? because i haven’t received mine yet, and i called them to ask… they just told me to keep waiting… =l

sarthak!!!NUS has been consistently ranked in the top 15 universities in the world.(much higher in engineering)…getting into a top uni for post grad would be a piece of cake…
Its a no brainer for me actually…
but i know that NUS is really competitive and usually quite low key about recruiting intls.
I rate my chances at 40%…
Then again-hkust with a scholarship!!!nothing can beat that!!!:D

@Anand78: Actually, NUS is ranked 30 worldwide and HKUST 35. 5 places not much of a difference and considering HKUST’s potential, there’s room of further improvement in its rankings. NUS’s engg programme is definitely ranked higher than UST’s but trust me UST’s enrichment activities and campus compensate for that. And UST with full scholarship; nothing beats it! Agreed :)
