HKU or HKUST

@merrypips where are from?
@ysberra I was reading your posts and wondering if you ever contacted HKU at all about the status of your application? I once contacted them to see if they recieved my documents. I wonder why they take so long. I read that they will give offers in writing and that you can check your status in April and onwards. Good thing Im so busy, otherwise the wait would be killing me

@asiam, I emailed HKU to update my scores and asked them to notify me if they are missing any application materials. This was back in February. All they said was Dear Student, information noted. So they really didn't answer my question regarding my application materials.

@ysbera, yeah I got a similar response, I wanted to know if they recieved everything or if anything was missing, but the response was so vague, I still was not sure. Oh Well, are you applying for science or business?

@ everyone- thanks guys! i cant wait to hear where you all end up going =D and hi xandrea! humm..that is strange that they would respond that vaguely, they didnt even confirm whether they got all your app. materials?

for HKUST, if you are missing any material, they will notify you.
So I guess you guys don't need to worry that much for HKU....

Haha, congrats again Michelle! I don't minding ending up in HKU :)

@asiam I applied for business

@ michelleger yep, they respond vary vaguely, but i can just imagine how many emails they get on a daily basis.

@ysbera oh great, so maybe we will have a few classes together in the future.

haha... if I go to HK, I would go to HKUST but we will see.

@asiam: I'm originally from Korea, but I've been living abroad for so long. Right now I'm in China studying in an international school =]

I forgot to mention something, if it helps at all. I don't mean to 'pop the bubble' but it seems that HKUST has decided to conduct a face-to-face interview with applicants from mainland china regardless of nationality starting this year, according to a current student at HKUST (he's one of the international student ambassadors appointed by the admissions office, so I guess it's correct to say this info is actually legitimate). can anyone verify this info?

and again Donutz, if you don't mind: what were your 2nd and 3rd choice programs at HKU?

@ysbera well I heard HKUST is better for international business. But in any event I would think that the decision would be based on the scholarship. What if one of the schools offers a full scholarship, its an offer thats hard to refuse. Or maybe you choose the school that accepts you into your first choice. I think when you dont get in your first choice they put you in your second choice or something. But we will see. Hope you get sorted out soon. I will let you know as soon as I get accepted.

@merrypips studying in China sounds so interesting, what part of China? Are you fluent in Mandarin?

@2mm, i can tell you that it's not true. I'm an international student here in Beijing, and though i did have a 'phone interview', i never actually met face to face with anybody from HKUST.

Hello, nice to see that so many people apply to HK universities. Yet i would like to know weather there are sb from Europe? I had an interview with HKUST and already have an offer from CUHK, quantitative finance program, however HKU is extremely silent.. as i have noticed not only when it comes to me..:)

@Donutz, interview tomorrow? haha... lets post here with our experience afterward...
@asiam, yea scholarship will be a factor but I still like the location and the program I selected at HKUST more than HKU. Plus if you get 38> in IB, HKUST will give a scholarship and there is always the Swire Scholarship program.

ysbera, asiam are u IB students? If so ,i guess, we are experiencing the same disaster...;DD

Ugggh, I haven't heard a single thing from HKU yet... - -" They probably forgotten about my existence... and congrats michelleger :)

Yea I am IB. 38 points for 80,000 first year scholarship not too bad but I am sure they have other kinds of scholarships other than the ones listed on the website.
