edisonchan7: Why do you say that ? How many chinese applicants do you know of, applying to HKUST?

I have a couple of questions for anyone who has applied to HKUST recently.

I’m in the process of filling out my application and I noticed that HKUST are looking for an academic reference report, as is mentioned in the help guide. I looked through the application and several relevant pages on the HKUST website but couldn’t find the report template. E-mailed the programs office with a number of specific questions but they sent back a generic reply briefly stating that I could find the report on the application page (exact location undisclosed) along with a couple of paragraphs copied and pasted from the help guide.

Am I right in assuming that the report template will be available for download after I’ve submitted the online application? How long will I then have to submit my supporting documents? Through a Google search, I found a HKUST reference report template for a Master’s course which stated that the form was to be returned within a week of submitting the application. Is this true for undergraduates as well? I don’t think such a timeframe would be feasible without properly briefing my referee…which I can’t do without the report. :(

Does anyone have a soft copy of the report template they could forward to me? Would greatly appreciate it. :)

@Neoteric: You should be able to find the format on the application login page itself!

@Everyone: Dude, HKUST Business School’s world ranking improved drastically. It’s No.9 in the world now; almost equivalent to Chicago! O_O Wow, this uni undoubtedly has a very bright future!

I should have mentioned that I’m an international student. I’ve taken a screenshot of the login page and the relevant section in the help guide as it appears to me.

<a href=“ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs”>ImageShack - Best place for all of your image hosting and image sharing needs;

I can’t find a link to the form.

Even if no international applicant has a soft copy of the form, does anyone recall recall how long you had to send it in?

System Failure: Thats true! As I said before this is the University with the greatest potential !!

Neoteric: Sorry mate, can’t remember this part of the application!

@Neoteric: First login using your ID and password. On the front page, you’ll get a reminder asking you to send in the supporting documents. In that reminder itself, there’s a link to a format for reference report.
“Please ask your Principal / Academic Referee to send the Confidential Academic Reference directly to the University. (Click here for the Reference Form)”
I think you can see this reminder once you have paid the application fee and submitted your online application. It’s a pdf doc.
Basically, you need to send your docs within two weeks after paying the application fee :)

From the time you submit your application, they ask that you have your supporting documents received by HKUST within two weeks. I don’t think they are too stingy about getting it within two weeks because on the screen they say that if you can’t get a document in in time (transcript, etc) notify them and when you expect it to come in. Further the report isn’t too long. Half of it is just numbering different qualities (maturity, leadership, etc) and the other “half” (there is only about two inches of room) is to describe things in more detail. They really didn’t leave much room. I have a copy of the report but it has my name, passport number, and reference number but I can forward it to you if you provide your email.

Ah! Yes, it looks like it will only show up once I’ve actually submitted the application. Thanks, System Failure. :)

Oh, thanks Rebecca but I really wouldn’t feel comfortable asking you to share your private details. 2 weeks should be fine for me to get everything in order. I did find a copy of the form local applicants are asked to submit here (it’s under the section titled “Other Information”) –> https://www.ab.ust.hk/cgi-bin/std_nem_cgi.sh/WService=broker_ug_p/prg/ug_ap_genrl_info_2.htm.

Is the form international applicants use pretty much the same thing?

Hey~
Does anyone who applying to economics heard anything from HKUST?
I applied before Jan, but still nothing come to me=(
It is making me crazy~ haha

gogounivs: I applied in early October and then received confirmation on 7th Jan, so chillax, I think you should expect to get a reply b/w mid Mar and April end…

Good Luck!

@gogounivs-same here,i applied in mid dec but not a word yet…
if you applied before jan, results will come out before march 31st…
Btw-it might come sooner too…Depends on the department you have applied…
I am expecting mine around late feb-early march!!!

@sarthak-does hkust do interviews for everyone??
or can offers/rejections be made without it??

if so,i really need to update my contact details!!!

Anand: HKUST can give out offers without interviews
And yes it is safer to update your contact details cause you are as likely to be interviewed as you are not! does that make sense ?!
But anyways update your contact details …

@Anand: You applied for Engg and interview is more of a reqt for business applicants so quite possible you’ll get your decision without an interview! I have my interview in a few minutes! Waiting for them to call! >.<

@system failure-yup…u are probably right…I will update my contact details anyway…I had given my UK Number…but i aint there any more…
Your interview is probably over by now…Hope it went well…
…post your experience!!!

Okay my interview was sooooo weird! Firstly, the bad connection. Then, I was stammering for no reason. I answered everything I could! But kind of stopped when they asked me “Give us an example from your experience where you’ve thought technology needs management”. And there was taking 1000 minutes to answer. And then I just answered some bullsh**! There were TWO people interviewing me and it went on for 25 minutes [No Kidding] and they kept bombarding me with questions time and again! And in the end they are like “Do you wanna ask something?” And I said, “Congratulations!”.
In response they were like errr for what? I told them how impressed I was that the business school reached 9th spot in the rankings this year! ROFL. They started laughing! And I’m so effing dumb. In the end they said, “Thankyou very much”. And I said, " Thanks, Bye Bye!" CAN U BELIEVE ME? I said Bye Bye! LMAO. I’m SOOOO LAME!

Okay, now I’m having random thoughts that I won’t make it! >.<
Yeah, so now either Canada or Singapore [If I get in] =P

If I don’t get anywhere, I’m going to Tonga and Tuvalu and spending the rest of my life in the Pacific.

Hey …
I have a query…
HOPE I get into HKUST for BBA program. After completion of the course I want to pursue an MBA program which requires work exp.

So I need to gain work exp after my BBA program. What are the placement status of HKUST for BBAs?Could anyone estimate the avg salary that i can expect after BBA?

System Failure: Calm the f**k down!! don’t worry i’m sure you’ll make it!! pakka se!! yaar teri english phir bhi diff hai, par we can just imagine yeh Hk or China ke log kaise interview dete hain!! seriously toefl ke time mere saath jitne bhi cheeni the sabne itni ajjeb si english boli !!
and yes yeh message hindi mein isliye hai ke yeh log mujhe peete nahin! :D

Just chillax and good luck!

@system failure: just relax and calm down…Interviews are never meant to be easy…
There is no one"right answer" to their questions. They just want to see how you think and approach problems…You will get in,no worries…

and Tonga and Tuvalu is not a bad idea…i might just consider it!!!:D
